What is the Status of the Planned Houston-Auckland Service?

Continental announced a nonstop for this route more than a year ago but now there seems to be no mention of it. Does anyone know if they are still planning to do this? It was to be a route for the new 787

Do you mean IAH-AKL? CO announced it would delay the launch until 2012 because the 787s are not ready.

Yes, AUkland, whatever that code is. Ok, glad to know it is still on the plan.
That flight is what my miles are for.

Also, it's spelled Auckland.

I'm still hoping to spend one of these New Years Eves in Auckland. We'll see...

Likewise. I was super excited when I learned of the new route and now I'm just sitting here waiting for it to be put into service. At this rate it'll be 2015 before 787 is ready for flight. Come on Boeing, get it together.

Not a lot indeed. Latest estimations still put completion of certification for the RR-engined model & 1st delivery to ANA by Aug/Sep. Completion of certification of GE-engined version (what CO/UA has on order) and 1st delivery to JAL is expected before the end of year. This was one of very few quarterly calls during which Boeing didn't announce a delay, so the tunnel is definitely starting to look brighter.
