Big trouble for me this week. Off to work in the Midwest and all four flights are at mealtimes but too short for food. That snack basket is caloric disaster but it is difficult to keep away from when you are hungry and they wave it in front of you.
Add in a couple of business lunches and dinners and you get the picture.

Then comes the weekend when we will be at a riverside table for Thunder over Louisville at a place with a huge buffet and a very good wine list. I will have trouble getting out of this trip with less than a +3. Just hoping to avoid the +5-6 which sometimes does happen.

Good evening Box the Third.

Just thought I'd poke my head in before I headed to bed. Tired and have an early start tomorrow.

Yes. Thursday, April 26 - Sunday, April 30, 2012.

We are thinking of making The Salt Lick the regular Sunday-ending event for all future Austin Mega Do's because it was so popular a venue, but it will be changed substantially otherwise.

Would definitely be in for this.

I didn't know about the Tour DO (so many things I don't know about...but I'm learning). Now I have even more interesting stuff to try to fit into my schedule and budget.

Help me!!!

I am booking flights to FCO in August. I can take care of Mr and Mrs Radonc1. The flights are a mix of CO and UA both ways. I will be booking my wife and myself in BF (I guess that is C in UA). The problem is that I will be booking my son in Y, and I would like to use miles to upgrade him, if possible. However, I have no idea how to go about it. If someone could tell me if I can us CO miles to do an upgrade on UA metal (although the ticket is though CO.com and is CO flight nos,) and how to go about it, I would really appreciate it. Thanks all

On UA metal you must be booked on the UA code for a miles-based upgrade. You would transfer those CO miles to UA by linking your accounts and then redeem the UA miles for a UA upgrade.

If you are booked on CO metal then the booking code does not matter.

I have linked my accounts and have both UA and CO miles (plenty). So, I make my reservation on CO no matter what the code, then do the upgrade. I have not done an upgrade in years so I will need to brush up on my upgrade skills. This should be interesting.

EWR AirTrain is FUBAR. And CO apparently sold me an illegal connection (22 min in MCO). Gonna be an interesting morning.

If the inbound is anywhere near on time, 22 minutes or even 10 should be plenty there.

BTW, your Loyalty program post in another forum was quite interesting. You did however leave enough of a clue to permit this reader to make a solid guess as to whose it is. :)

What's a penalty box? I thought it was the place the plane had to park when the gate agents were delayed or the gates were all full.

That's one answer. Also where hockey players go when they get caught breaking the rules. Or where we hang out and socialize.

Agreed. Only thing I'm slightly worried about is that it is an ERJ inbound so if we all have to wait for gate-checked bags I'll be slowed down enough that it'll be annoying. There is a flight MCO-ORD that catches me back up that I can always go for if needed.

Ever since I missed the 2010 Austin DO (I was too much of an FT newbie to know about it) I've always hoped for another. Is there really not going to be any 2011 event (maybe something less formal)? April 2012 is soooo far away...

In any case, since I'm in Austin, do feel free to ping me for any local coordination support. Salt Lick is an absolute must. I think Rudy's is too if you're still going for a BBQ theme.

Thanks. It always helps to have as many local folks as possible lend a helping hand, but when Franklin BBQ (in Austin), Snow's BBQ (in Lexington), City Market (in Luling), and the Salt Lick (in Driftwood) are among the establishments being visited, Rudy's would be such a disappointment by comparison that I'd probably be tarred and feathered and ridden out of town on a rail if it was included. :o

Agreed. Rudy's is fine when I'm pressed for time since it's just down the street, but if I have a choice, it doesn't make the list.

I'm not sure I can jump right in and arrange a DO of this scale, but I would be up for a smaller dinner-DO (Salt Lick?!). I bet we could rally a bunch of the Austinites together...

No doubt. We do that from time to time anyway, but something on this scale? I'm not touching that more than every two years. ;)

It's pedestrian quality at best, IMHO. Good enough to stop for with regard to convenience sake, but I can name 10 better BBQ places inside Austin's city limits with no problem whatsoever. :p

Got a bad report from a friend of mine (who I trust with BBQ opinions) on Snow's. He had overcooked brisket and undercooked sausage last week when he was there.

I am gonna be making my way there in a few weeks so I'll double check. Will be sad if it wasn't a simple one-off type thing.
