Edinburgh Restaurant

Got one night in Edinburgh this week, anyone have any tips as a good place to go eat ?

Not to fussy about what type of food, just nice to find a good meal! Steak would be good though ;-)

Thanks...

I haven't been there in, oh, 8 years but Stac Polly used to be well thought of by carnivores. My favourite in Edinburgh is Le Cafe St Honore.

Things which are fairly central (depending what day of the week, a reservation may be required):

Room in the Town/ West End - http://www.aroomin.co.uk/thetown/
Grain Store - http://www.grainstore-restaurant.co.uk/about/
Howies - not quite as good as the above two, can be a little ambitious with the menu, but generally solid http://www.howies.uk.com/
Maison Bleu (also on Victoria St, doesn't seem to have a website) is French fusion, but I've also had a very, very good meal there and hope to get back in the future.

Café St Honoré gets another vote here

The pick of the Edinburgh steakhouses are Bell's Diner in Stockbridge and the Smokestack on Broughton Street (their Leith branch is no more :mad:). Both are pretty inexpensive.

Which hotel are you staying at?

Staying at the Marriott Country Club by the airport, but we have wheels so can go anywhere in the city.

if you are staying out there and have transport, why not head over to The Champany Inn. There's a high end restaurant and a chop house there. Excellent food, we ate there (in the chop house) recently. ^

it's about a 20 minute drive from the Dalmahoy - probably quicker than getting in and out of the city.

Bounty, I totally agree with you about The Champany Inn. I particularly recommend the high end restaurant. It is my favorite restaurant in the UK and I have flown to Edinburgh from London for the day just to have lunch there.

I've only eaten in the main restaurant once, and that was about 10 years ago  ; but we visit the chop house quite regularly ^
