I have the option of Staying at the Hilton or Marriott in Bath. Has anyone had experience with either?

You might try searching the Hilton and Marriott forums in the Hotels Forum of Miles & Points: http://flyertalk.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=389
Hilton Bath was an ok place to stay, sterile no character but cheap and clean. Good location. Free breakfast was a perk. -- |

I've found that searching for ONE keyword works better, in this case obviously bath and Hilton are going to have a ton of hits. Sometimes " " works, like "Hilton Bath" -- |

I would definitely pass on the Hilton. I have actually stayed there (while looking for an apartment after returning from a long overseas posting). There are so much nicer hotels in Bath. You used to be able to Priceline the Bath Spa - an excellent five star hotel. I would definitely do that in preference to staying at the rather soulless Hilton, which is an ugly slablike building without many of the conveniences of a modern hotel (I don't remember any A/C or even a minibar). |
Sleep in the car before you stay at the Bath Hilton.

The Best Western in Bath is very nice and in an excellent central location.
There are also very charming and historic lodgings (and quieter) on the outskirts of Bath. CCC |
The Bath Spa Hotel is definately THE place to stay in Bath. My parents stayed there several times when I was at university in Bath. The two restaurants are good too.
The Hilton looks hideous from the outside (think concrete horror, totally out of place in the splender of Bath), but might be slightly better on the inside. I've never heard of a Marriot in Bath either. |
I realized my mistake on the Marriott. I tried to get an award at the bath spa but it was no go. I bit the bullet and booked a night at the Royal Crescent. I had forgotten how much history other than the Roman Baths were in the area. I loved the Sally Lund restaurant.
