DUB security lines
 

Hi All,

I'll be flying from DUB to GVA on Aer Lingus next Sunday. The flight departs à 13h15 and my bus will arrive at T2 at noon so it's very tight.
How crazy are the security lines in general on Sundays around noon? Is it worth taking a Fast Track pass?

Hand luggage only. Are there automated immigration desks? would it be faster with a EU Passport rather than an ID card?

any idea how reliable that bus is likely to be?
in general I find that the longer the bus journey, the more likely it is to be late!

there's no emigration checks when departing DUB - you just need to scan your boarding card to allowed airside

It's the Dublin Express service from Dublin Heuston station. I'll be arriving by train to Heuston so I hope Irish Trains are reliable :) Otherwise... taxi.

Irish Rail is a mixed bag ... personally, I would catch an earlier train!

Hope you aren't impacted by this weekend's engineering works. They should be reflected in the online timetable.

It's worth mentioning that Dublin seems to be going through another phase of pulling 50% of bags for secondary, without having the resources to cope with it - including in Fast Track. Very often they will just look at the screen and hand your luggage straight back to you, but only after you've stood waiting for 10 minutes for everyone else to be processed. If you ask them what caused the issue so you can plan around it, you get a shrug of the shoulders and are told "nothing".

If you actually arrive 1h15 before departure, and pay for Fast Track if the normal queue looks long, you should be fine, but you're reliant on a lot of different types of transport to achieve that. Unless you have a significant buffer between train arriving and coach departing, I too would look to take an earlier train.

You certainly shouldn't expect things to work as predictably as they do in Switzerland :).

There is no earlier train lol. I was a bit surprised yes when I looked up the trains :) I'm too used to Swiss trains that start service at 6am even for the tiniest towns in the middle of nowhere :)

Well it's Sunday, public transport tends to start late on Sundays in Ireland (and the UK too - on many lines you can't get to London until 10am). Earliest arrival into Heuston being around 11am isn't too surprising.

You may have already checked but there could be an earlier bus/coach and it might even go directly to the airport?

yes, there's a decent number of direct services to Dublin airport - both private and public

if you're planning on travelling by public bus, I always book mine online beforehand, as passengers with reservations often get to board first
