One-Stop Security at Heathrow
A pilot program involving four airlines, two U.S. airports and security agencies in both the U.S. and U.K. will allow certain passengers originating in Atlanta and Dallas-Fort Worth to make connections at Heathrow without undergoing a security recheck. Participating carriers include Delta, British Airways and Virgin Atlantic from ATL and American and BA from DFW. The new program will only apply at Terminals 3 and 5.
https://thepointsguy.com/news/london...stop-security/ One of the biggest hassles of connecting at a British airport like LHR is having to undergo security rechecks before accessing a connecting flight, even if a passenger has remained airside and hasn't had to reclaim their checked bags. This new program will therefore be welcomed by those passengers whose itineraries qualify. It's interesting that British authorities started with U.S.-origin flights and not Canadian ones. For several years already the Government of Canada has recognized British aviation security as equivalent to Canadian, allowing many passengers originating at major UK airports and connecting to domestic flights at Canadian airports with ITD transit facilities to bypass security inspection. Meanwhile the U.S. rescreens all connecting passengers arriving in the country. |
