Heathrow Security

Was through T4 security last month and instead of the usual mix of HAL staff from many communities, security had been clearly outsourced to ICTS who were clearly training on the job, and it looked like week / day 1! Not the usual multicultural mix, indeed almost all were South Asian and likely locals.

Then T5 last weekend I noticed the same, all South Asian and all very nervous, young and new! Did they really lose that many experienced staff that they're hiring newbies en masse in Feb? They were not at all on the ball and didn't inspire confidence! Got a
secondary and there was no one there to do it.

Have Ts&Cs not improved? And are the other terminals being outsourced to ICTS as well?

What's the relevance of their race here?

I think the point is to point out the racist bias of the original poster.

I have a feeling they’re not as nervous and incompetent as you want us to believe because you’ve decided to attach your prejudice to them because of their race. This whole post says a lot more about you than it does about Heathrow security.

Heathrow are currently in the process of installing the new "2l liquid compatible" security scanners. All their staff need training on the machines, plus a load of security queues are closed off while the machines are replaced. (For example, the BA First Wing security is currently closed)

It may well be that Heathrow have hired in some temporary staff who are trained on the old-style of scanners, to free up their permanent staff for training on the new machines that they're installing

Bottom of the pile in terms of wages, no white staff, even Polish.

What tosh. Most (all?) of these will be British citizens and local to the Hounslow area.
And don't get me started on "even" Polish.

Of course, the mix of workforce at LHR is more closely related to the mix of people in the Hounslow area than it is to the population generally. It would be unusual for someone to commute to work, especially low wage work, at LHR all the way from the Orkneys. That said, the training issue is key and was noticeable when I passed through the other day - in fact a well trained supervisor suggested I went through the old process as the new process was still unfamiliar to most people and was taking much longer.

I lived in Feltham for the last decade and know the locality very well, and flew from LHR regularly across all 4 terminals, 5 if you include T1. My main point was the staff demographics have moved from wide and mixed (very London, a good thing), to narrow and very localised with evident inexperience. And that's money driven IMHO. Actively looking to be offended where none was intended is very 2024.

They're outsourcing security.

I am not sure whether it does include those doing passenger security

Heathrow Airport Ltd (HAL) has ignored existing consultation procedures and has announced a fait accompli that workers in passenger services (who assist travellers to catch connecting flights), trolley operations, and campus security (the security guards who are responsible for all workers at Heathrow and vehicles being checked before entering Heathrow), will be outsourced by 1 June.

You're right - Campus Security doesn't do passengers. That's the vehicle entry points.
