Which Visa is required for Same Day Return Flight from US to UK

I am Indian Passport holder. Does anybody know which type of Visa is required if I will be doing the Same day return (with 24 hours) flights from US to UK and Back to US on different PRN. If I have flight with 24 hours and not planning to leave the airport will it considered as a Transit visa or I need to apply Direct Airside Transit visa (DATV) ? Just checking my option how best burn SWU from American before July 2022.

I wouldn't gain visa advice from an internet forum, what if we got this wrong?

If you're travelling Hand Baggage Only, you should be able to Transit Without Visa as you'd be remaining airside and going via connections at LHR back into the gate area. However, you would still need to meet US rules again presumably, ie. a COVID test done a calendar day prior, so just ensure you've got your timings right for that. Having said that, do double-check yourself on this: https://www.gov.uk/check-uk-visa

Returning to the same country is not considered transit under international airline regulations. You may get away with it, but would have no leg to stand on if denied boarding accordingly. I second the advice to refer to a consulate rather than Internet forum.

You need to be verify whether you would be "enter" the UK, and re-enter US from immigration status standpoint.

What is your US status?

What do you mean by “same day return (with 24 hours) flights”?

You won’t be permitted to remain airside at LHR overnight - unless you’re a guest of the UK Border Force and that’s something you do t want to be.

I’m not sure this complication is worth it just to use an AA system wide upgrade instrument.

Other than day flights from the US, direct turn from the UK is very much a possibility. I am guessing that's what the OP meant - overnight flight to London, and possibly the same plane back within a few hours, notwithstanding immigration hurdles.

So if I am traveling on 2 different tickets. Like Asia to LHR one ticket and LHR and US on different tickets and connection time is like 20 hours will it considered as transit Visa or DATV ? Which Airlines can provide the correct details (First Airlines or ticket with 2nd Airlines)

Airlines aren't responsible for providing correct immigration and visa requirements.

Normally separate tickets are not defined as transit, and you must meet the entry rules for the destination on each ticket.

Be aware that Processing times for visas is over double the baseline due to Ukrainian applications being prioritized.

You will need a UK visa in order to board the flight from Asia to LHR, because returning to the same country is not considered a transit.

Thanks for all the responses and looks like I will be applying for Standard Visa. As I am applying this in US UK Consultant. What will be the timeline for Visa process ? Couldn't find Standard days for processing time. I am debating whether to go for Premium process (300 extra) or just Standard. My Tentative travel dates on End of April 2022 or 1 week of May 2022

It’s on the .gov website and also on the social media accounts of several British missions abroad (i.e. the Indian High Commission).

If you have yet to book tickets, I would ensure they are on the same PNR to avoid having to apply for a UK visa.

stargold Mar 23, 2022 8:18 am

Both flights being on the same PNR won't make any difference to the question of whether OP needs a visa and, if so, what type.
