Great, thank you, we will give this a try - and this doesn't make a difference in terms of dead RNA picked up by PCR but not antigen? We know we don't have an active infection so not worried about that aspect.

Here is what I have extracted from today's data release. It does now look like the peak of the current wave was more than a week ago. Hopefully that will show in the ONS data on Friday.
England cases 15,141 (27,121 last Monday) England deaths 111 (126) (up 15.2% week on week) Patients admitted in England 1,754 (2,005 on the 11th) Patients in hospital in England 14,044 (13,336 on the 11th) Patients in ventilation beds 287 (274 on the 13th) Vaccinated up to and including 19 July 2022: First dose: 45,134,956 Second dose: 42,347,786 Booster: 33,329,132 |
Today's weekly data from the ONS survey. In the week ending 13-14 July2022:
One in 17 people in England had Covid (last week one in 19) One in 17 in Wales had Covid (last week one in 17) One in 20 in Northern Ireland had Covid (last week one in 17) One in 15 in Scotland had Covid (last week one in 16) As I have said before, this data shows the situation more than a week ago. The rapid rises of a few weeks back have abated. The data could still be consistent with the peak of the current wave being a week ago. |
As a slightly OT aside, does anyone have comments either way on the Everything Genetic LFD tests sold at some pharmacies. Long story short, had a sore throat Tuesday/Wednesday (mostly subsided) and cough Thursday. I've run out of free tests so had to buy some. The instructions vary a little from the NHS provided tests so I'm slightly concerned (just waiting for my first result).

Here is what I have extracted from the latest data release. It still looks to me like the peak of the current wave was approaching two weeks ago.
England cases 10,752 (16,753 last Monday) - down 35.1% week on week England deaths up 11.3% week on week Patients admitted in England 1,345 (1,754 on the 18th) Patients in hospital in England 12,529 (14,044 on the 18th) Patients in ventilation beds 273 (287 on the 20th) Vaccinated up to and including 26 July 2022: First dose: 45,155,205 Second dose: 42,417,119 Booster: 33,369,312 |
Today's weekly data from the ONS survey. In the week ending 20 July2022:
One in 20 people in England had Covid (last week one in 17) One in 19 in Wales had Covid (last week one in 17) One in 16 in Northern Ireland had Covid (last week one in 20) One in 19 in Scotland had Covid (last week one in 15) The ONS confirming that infection levels are falling though NI is having a bit of a wobble. |
This weeks data for England:
England cases 7,368 (10,115 last Monday) - down 34.3% week on week England deaths down 27.5% week on week Patients admitted in England 1,120 (1,345 on the 25th) Patients in hospital in England 9,817 (11,914 on the 27th) Patients in ventilation beds 232 (273 on the 27th) Vaccinated up to and including 2 August 2022: First dose: 45,173,642 Second dose: 42,475,448 Booster: 33,405,904 All of the figures are now heading in the right direction. Looking at deaths, we hit an average of just over 183 per day in the middle of last month. By my reckoning the current figure would be about half that. |

Here is what the ONS have to report today. In the week ending 25-26 July 2022:

This weeks England data:
England cases 6,548 (8,703 last Monday) - down 23.7% week on week England deaths down 22.9% week on week Patients admitted in England 975 (1,120 on the 1st) Patients in hospital in England 8,487 (9,817 on the 3rd) Patients in ventilation beds 216 (232 on the 3rd) Vaccinated up to and including 9 August 2022: First dose: 45,188,570 Second dose: 42,520,292 Booster: 33,436,351 All areas of England and Scotland are now seeing good reductions in cases. |
Just in case anyone wonders, the ONS are having a rest today. They have changed the way they get their results and have decided not to release any data today. Normal service resumes next Friday in theory.

Some vaccine news now:
The UK has become the first country to approve a dual vaccine which tackles both the original Covid virus and the newer Omicron variant. The upgraded vaccine should be available as an autumn booster and give better protection against variants. All over-50s and people in high-risk groups will be offered some form of booster from next month. Originally those aged 50-65 were not going to be jabbed. However, the immunisation campaign has been expanded because of the fast spread of variants, uncertainty about how the virus will mutate and the expectation that we will be more social this winter than in previous years - giving the virus more chance to spread. |
