LHR - clearing immigration at a different terminal from arrival

We arrive on Swiss at T2, grandma and two kids arrive on AA at T3 around the same time. For simplicity's sake, we'd like to meet up with them prior to crossing the border. I've never paid attention before, but it is possible to get to a different terminal before going through immigration?

yes in theory it's possible but where are you going to meet up?

What if one flight is late??

And baggage is not a minor issue

Doesn't access to flight connections require a boarding pass for an onward flight?

And, when you use flight connections, doesn't it empty you into the departures side after security, so how do you get to the arrivals side?

No, otherwise you'd need to go through security when arriving at LHR as your final destination....

The pre-border area is pretty sterile and there is no place comfortable to wait. Much easier to pick a coffee shop or similar location landside and meet them there.

If you have checked bags then you will need to meet landside anyway.

It certainly has when I've done Flight Connections at T2, or at least required proof of onward flight.

Whilst it’s perfectly possible, with T2 and T3 arrivals there really is very little point given they are joined to each other by a landside passageway with moving travelators.

Just clear immigration at T2 - it’s a very efficient terminal - walk through customs, follow the signs for the Underground/Heathrow Express/TfL trains, then for T3. It’s no more than a 10 minute walk - way quicker than the transfer - and it’s much easier to meet landside than try to find each other in the UK Border area.
