Liverpool Restaurants & Bars
 

Am going to be in Liverpool in June to see P!nk at Anfield and this will actually be my first time in the city so any decent restaurant, cocktail bar tips would be most welcome. Also, other than the obvious sights and things to do, are there any slightly less obvious things that we should see or do?

For some good food and drink places, we enjoyed Cains Brewery Village. About 15 minutes walk from the main docks area.

*Avoid the Peaky Blinders place though... it seemed to be full of "special" people dressed as Peaky Blinders. A sort of single themed fancy dress.

If you're after a pub with a lot of history (and very ornate gents toilets :-) ) I'd recommend the famous Philharmonic Dining Rooms

What's the connection between Peaky Blinders and Liverpool? Isn't that a bit like having a Beatles night in a mock Cavern in Birmingham

It's filmed there apparently.

The same company has just opened one in Manchester also... but seem to be attracting the attention of the show producers...

Thanks for the suggestions - I'll take a look at these. Interesting insight into Peaky Blinders, and that is somewhere I will steer well clear of.

I love Liverpool, one of my favourite cities Sister city to Dublin, proudly claims more surviving Georgian buildings than Bath Its stuffed full of traditional old pubs , mostly basic with no food , the Philharmonic is indeed well worth a visit , they even offer tours of the Gents !
1 the University quarter is full of wonderful Georgian terraces
2 Hope St - the Philharmonic is on Hope St - has a cathedral at each end The modern Catholic cathedral is said to have a spectacular crypt , but it was closed the day I went The best view I know of the city is from the tower of the huge Anglican cathedral , its a few quid to go up in the lift , well worth it on a nice day
3 on the way uphill wander up Bold St , still agreeably bohemian in parts
4 good food available in Chinatown
5 if you take a frequent train to Aigburth you're a few minutes walk from Lark Lane , another bohemian spot with lots of restaurants At the top of Lark Lane is Sefton Park , the Hyde Park of Liverpool
6 I once went on a Beatles tour with a friend - cant for the life of me remember who he was , I just did a Google search He came to pick us up and it was an excellent afternoon He showed us a black painted terrace , presumably for longer term demolition , which was one of the sets for Peaky Blinders .
I live in Birmingham , so was surprised , I guess they must have filmed in both cities
7 though Albert Dock can be tacky and touristy the architecture and river views are great
8 Ive not been into the relatively new Museum of Liverpool , but I suspect its good

I went to Panoramic 34 recently. Superb food, wonderful views - though not cheap.
The Museum of Liverpool is well worth a few hours of your time.
Hop on Merseyrail over to Port Sunlight, visit the Lady Lever Art Gallery and view some of the hundreds of listed buildings in the village.
If you have any excuse to be out near the airport, Speke Hall (National Trust) is well worth a visit, especially so if Liverpool are operating on Runway 09 when there are superb views to be had from the footpath.

I guess sunset will be pretty late in June, but you certainly get a good view at Panoramic 34. For more casual dining, Bold Street has a selection of interesting independent restaurants (including Mowgli)
Concert Square, nearby, is where some of the younger people go for nightlife. There are some rooftop cocktail bars around the city which might be nice, depending on weather.
The war museum is actually interesting, but quite small. (It was the underground headquarters of the WW2 North Atlantic fleet). There are also tours of one of the road tunnels, if civil engineering is more your thing.
