The e-visa scheme is actually an improvement. Used to be you had to queue in an interminable line when you got there to get the visa.
And you had to have a crisp new English £10 note - no promissory notes, no old-looking notes, no excessive folds, no dog-ears, no change, no 2 x £5 or multiples of £1, etc, etc.

The EU is not (yet??) a sovereign state, and so the passports of the constituent countries are not the same, especially when it comes to other sovereign states, of which Turkey is one. Turkey can charge foreigners whatever it likes to enter based on whatever arbitrary criteria it wants to use. Within the EU, sure, all citizens should be treated the same - but there are cases where this is not true - especially with regards to family immigration.

Provided that it has no laws of its own against the practice, a country could even do something that many people might regard as ridiculous, like charging male visitors a higher visa fee than females, despite both holding the same passport form the same country.

Well check the German requirements they don't even need a passport, just an ID... it's all about relationships between the governments

Put simply the Swedes have a deal with Turkey while we don't. If it concerns you so much don't go.

One shouldn't. And I suggest that if you put the argument as cogently to the immigration officers at Istabul, they will be shamed into letting you in for free.

Indonesia and Malaysia are both members of ASEAN. The UK operates very different admission rules for each country.

That would depend on who your policy is with!

Check your emails and bank / credit card statements - that might give you a clue.

Most insurers class all countries around the Mediterranean as "Europe" (so Tukey, Israel, Egypt etc but don't insure you if you go to regions where you are advised not to by the FCO, which would include Syria and parts of Turkey such as the Syrian border.

It does not matter one jot what 'most insurers' class Turkey as.

All that matters is what YOUR insurer does.

You need to either (a) find out your existing policy says (have you even tried???) or (b) buy a new ones that does.
