Walk & hike query for Inverness
A co-worker is going to a conference in Edinburgh/Inverness at end of August. She and her spouse want to take day hikes, but don't want to sign up for a tour. Main concern is driving the narrow, left sided roads. They would like to hire driver/guide for the day. I suggested that she contact the conceierge at the Sheraton in EDI before hand. She is a SPG member. Any other ideas?

http://www.walkhighlands.co.uk/ is a good resource, and does have a selection on guides.
It's very easy driving up there, due to the lack of traffic, although slow going. The main difficulty is the roads that narrow to single track, and remembering which side to return to (the steering wheel being on the right does make this easier...)
A lot of scenic spots, however, are very accessible by rail, and there's some stunning rail journeys to be done. Info at http://www.scotrail.co.uk/discover_nhl
In addition, you can look at walking paths using Ordnance Survey maps. The easiest way to access these online is at http://www.streetmap.co.uk/ - you can adjust the zoom level so it is at OS Landranger and Pathfinder level - an example for Inversneck is:

Edinburgh and Inverness are a good three or four hours driving apart. Which one is it, where are they staying and where do they want to walk?
Agree that a car isn't necessary, if they plan well, but driving isn't too difficult - the roads (A9/ A96 aside) aren't too busy and us locals are friendly :-)
