Depending what you want to do, the dates of the UK school holidays may be an irrelevance.

Yes, mid-week days at UK theme parks will be busier in late July & August, but places like London attract so many overseas visitors that I reckon the pinch points there start in June and finish some time in September.

Likewise you'll see the cost of UK beach hotels and country cottages at their peak in August but you'll also get some bargains at London business hotels then, too.

And there will be zero BA award availability whenever you're willing to travel :p

There isn't a British standard on this. Schools in Scotland have a different pattern from England/Wales. Is there a particular place/attraction you had in mind?

I know it may be seen by some as good form on this board but that's being unnecessarily pedantic - the two holidays overlap by 3 or 4 weeks anyway and given the Scottish population is less than 10% of the UK's, the difference will be negligible.

School holidays are not standard. They are all have differences depending on the local authority or region. Scotland for example the summer holidays start in June and end in August whilst in England they start in July and end in September.

It can make quite a big difference in price for flights and holidays if you don't know when the school holidays in each region are.

Going back (too long to mention) to when I was at university in Leicester, the schools there broke up for summer holidays 2 weeks before the 'norm' (and I guess went back two weeks earlier too).

The biggest determinant as to UK school holidays is what was the farming requirements in about 1880. Hence Scottish kids are off picking raspberries and English ones gathering in hay and wheat. Or if you went to public school, Daddy has staff to do it for you.

Also fee paying schools appear to have longer holidays compared with State schools
