Ticket prices in December?
 

Hi, can anyone tell me what would be the most reasonably priced tickets for a roundtrip to London from Chicago this December? the best thing I can find is $900! I feel like I should wait for few more weeks before booking. Any advice?

Last year I saw flights go from my Midwestern city to LHR go for $900 or so and then drop about hundred dollars in July or so and they they stayed reasonably low until October. This year I haven't seen the same pattern. I think anything under $1000 is a fair price. Perhaps prices wil go down, but they could go up. You just never know.

Fares are insane right now. I was hoping to go to Belfast the week after Thanksgiving (a very low period for international travel), and I saw a fare of under $600 r/t from EWR about a month ago. That disappeared, and now fares to the UK and Ireland are extremely high. To London Aer Lingus has a decent special right now, but all the other nonstops are almost $1000 from New York - which is absurdly expensive.

I have to think the airlines will launch some type of sale this fall, but as has already been noted, you never really know what goes into the pricing.

Thanks for the notes, fellow fliers. Bing travel suggests that the prices will reduce, but I don't think I want to take chances. I found a round trip for $885 on priceline - I think I will just take it.

I was having a look today for MIA FLL JFK to LHR. Best I found was about 847 with AA (I was actually only looking for AA) but that was coming back from MAD which I'll gladly do to avoid APD

Anyway, that got me thinking. I thought it was more than I usually pay for December to London and I remembered that the last two times I went, I booked at the end of October and not the start of September.

I am not "desperate" to go so will hold off for the time being and take a punt in a couple of months.
