Academic Bookstores?
One more off the beaten path question. Where are the academic bookstores, for example, for advanced books on Math, Physics, Economics, such as, stores of Cambridge University Press, Oxford University Press, Blackwell, London School of Economics, Imperial College...etc?
Here in the US, academic bookstores are all consumed by Amazon (except Labyrinth in Princeton, Follette in Stanford, 18th St Barnes & Nobel in New York, and perhaps a few others). I remember Blackwell had a huge bookstore somewhere in Oxford Street (near SoHo) when I visited London 10+ years ago. There was a well-stocked Finance bookstore in "The City" area (near J. P. Morgan). What was the address? Any Recommendation? Thanks for all the great suggestions. Tintin |
Buffet near SoHo?
About 10+ years ago, there was a Chinese Buffet near Piccadilly, perhaps on Oxford Street, for quick big lunch. Anyone know?
I am still making plans. Tintin |

As you are travelling alone get an Oystercard on arrival, if you are staying between 4 & 7 days then load a 7 day zone 1-2 Travelcard and add some more cash to cover travel outside those zones (eg to & from Heathrow).
Looks like one important tidbit is that you apparently can't add a travelcard to a visitor oyster card - http://visitorshop.tfl.gov.uk/help-c...card-help.html. |

Tintin tb PS just read this about Foyle's history, and it really did bring the utterly unique bookshop of the 1980s and 1990s for me to life. It was truly chaotic, but somehow charming in the frustration of trying to find something useful. I stopped going around 10 or 11 years ago, so had missed the fact that it's now properly modernised. |

For books there is also Hatchards on Piccadilly Circus.

The is a bookstore inside LSE that may carry more academic works, though it is a Waterstones if I recall correctly. Enter into the campus on Houghton from Aldwych and walk on until you run into it.

Help Plan London Trip
Apps for london -tube buddy for blackberry, London tube for iPhone, timeout London for iPhone
I have a Swiss adapter works every country so far. Transit from airport depends on your luggage and your time -I prefer to get to hotel after overnight flight so i use heathrow express to Paddington and cab or tube to hotel Hotels the Hoxton just had their 1£ sale recently, that and Zsoho are good locations and pricing, small but reasonable for one person. For map I prefer the laminated Streetwise maps -get a Barnes/noble. As for oyster vs visitor depends on how much you think you will use. I tend to walk everywhere but have an oyster card as I visit a few times a year for work/holiday As for my favorite things - Byron Burger in Soho wardour street and then same street chocolate at Paul Young and cupcakes at Hummingbird bakery (I go here before airport to bring on flight and home). |
