Premier Heathrow bed for the night?

We've got a 945AM departure from T3 in March, so all we need is a bed for the night. I see Premier Inn advertising rooms at £39 but there are several locations. Does anyone have any experience of these?

A) 15 Bath Road, Hounslow
B) Shepiston Lane, Middlesex UB3 1RW
C) Heathrow Longford T5, 420 Bath Road, Longford,
West Drayton UB7 0RF

My major concerns are transport to T3 ( we will not have a car), and the cost of wifi at the hotel.

Any help appreciated.

Don't know about WiFi but the Premier Inn on Bath Road is right beside the airport and served by the Hoppa buses (£4) to the terminals. Decent restaurant and bar but can be busy and sometimes overrun with children on weekends, if that's a factor.

I'd recommend it, but make sure the £39 applies to your dates otherwise it's no better deal than others (Ibis,Ariel etc.)

Peter - Here is a link to the Yotel at Heathrow T4. It's an interesting place. Rooms are small but comfortable and you can rent them by hours or by the night.

WiFi included and room service available.

Premier Inn have quite an extensive presence in the UK and while some look down on them, they are perfectly adequate for an overnight stay if you don't set your expectations too high. Clean, friendly and functional.

The restaurants serve English pub grub and the cooked breakfasts are generally excellent.

I haven't stayed at LHR but all seem to have paid-for wifi in the rooms and public areas. GBP10 for 24 hours IIRC.

I don't know which Bath Rd one Wally is talking about - there are two. Bath Rd runs pretty much parallel to the runways and to the North of them

'Heathrow Airport (Bath Rd)', 15 Bath Rd, TW6 2AB is at the Eastern end.

'Heathrow Airport (Terminal 5)', 420 Bath Rd, UB7 0RF is at the Western end, closer to Terminal 5.

Both are pretty much equidistant from the Central Terminals Area, where T3 is. If you don't want to pay for the Hoppa, both can be reached on the free public bus, subject to (possibly) a walk to the bus stop. Details here.

The third Premier Inn (Shepiston Lane, UB3 1RW) is also known as 'Heathrow (M4 J4)'. It's not much further than the other two, but slightly less convenient. There's no free bus (though there is a Hoppa) and there are fewer facilities walkable.

If you want to look at the other options, I always recommend the London Toolkit site. Don't necessarily book through it, but it has a good map and summary of the transport options. (Do note that for some reason it doesn't show the 420 Bath Rd Premier Inn. Look for the Thistle, which is pretty much in the same location.)

Edited to add: I wouldn't recommend the T4 Yotel unless you get a good rate and/ or like tiny jazzy rooms. You're paying of the convenience of being located in the terminal, but it's the wrong terminal, so you'd have to get the (free) shuttle train over to T3 in the morning.

That one; the T5 one must be new since I was last there. The free buses only go as far as Harlington Corner which is a bit of a trek from the Premier with bags etc.

I never spend much money on a LHR hotel...most I've paid was about £60 and that was for a 4* through Priceline.

If you can get the Premier for £39 then take it. As there are two of you don't bother with the Hoppa. Just get the hotel to order you a taxi with a set rate...shouldn't be any more than £15. The Yotel sounds ghastly for the price.

Thanks for the Yotel link. I booked a Standard Room for £68 for a 15 hour stay. the rationale was that Premier Inn was going to be a total of £61 for the room, internet, and bus service. Add to that the potential for a rainy walk to the bus, and the novelty factor I went for Yotel.

Last time I used Priceline for a Heathrow hotel I got the Crowne Plaza for US$40 this was back in 2008 - Priceline/Hotwire seemed to have managed to move their pricing up a notch over the last 2 years which was when I last used them..but the gravy train had to come to and end sometime.

Always worth trying the once I suppose. Do let us know how you get on.

Indeed. I've been tempted but after sleeping in a drawer at NRT...

Yes, do let us know what you think of it!

I'm a big fan of the Yotels, but have only ever stayed in the 'premium' rooms, as I've been there with MrsStut. Their layout is quite clever - a double bed that retracts into a sofa, F flatbed style, at the touch of a button. Only downside is the noise from toilets flushing (yes, really) so earplugs can be handy if you're a light sleeper.

The standard rooms have an odd layout - effectively, you're in a bunk bed, but the other bunk is in the adjacent room. I'd be intrigued to see how it works out!

As you're in T4, you'll also have a pub outside the hotel (on the mezzanine level) as well as a branch of Café Rouge (nice mussels) and Caffe Nero (nice coffee) upstairs.

I've stayed at the Yotels at both LHR and LGW. The standard rooms are very small and best suited to just one person as to move around, the other person needs to be either standing in the bathroom or in bed, not to mention there would be little extra space for two or more suitcases, hand baggage and so on. Haven't tried the premium rooms so cannot comment, but I understand that they're double the size.

The beds are unusual - as stut says, the beds of adjacent rooms are located on top of each other -cabins either have steps up or down into them. I didn't experience any noise from adjacent beds so the sound-proofing is quite good.

+ Rainfall shower, one of the best I've ever had
+ Mood lighting helped me to relax
+ Good TV with a wide choice of music and TV available
+ In-airport convenience.
+ Convenient flexible pricing.
+/- 24/7 food and drinks available at prices less than a "regular" hotel - menu is fairly imaginative but not extensive
+/- If you're over 6ft 2, the beds in the standard cabins may not allow you to stretch out fully
- Standard cabin beds are not full doubles, closer to a single and a half, so it can be a "cosy" night for two.
- Can be pricey for a "full" night

I really liked them to be honest. I liked the modern feel and whilst minimalist, I didn't feel that it was no frills like a Travelodge. For a few hours and for when I can't face dealing with airport shuttles, nor wishing to pay through the roof for the on-airport properties, I'd go for Yotel again and again.

Would be interested to hear further opinion.

Well I think the proof is in the words of Mrs1962 - "we could do it again".

As everyone has said the Yotel Standard room is compact and minimalist. It's clean and convenient, reminds me of an IKEA display house. For me the pricing was worth the stay, and the novelty factor made it a bonus.

Check in was easy and friendly, there is a machine that dispenses hot drinks provided free at the check in desk. I admit that the photos of the Standard room really made me think it would have been larger. It was clear that I hadn't considered luggage space. We had one case, one duffel bag, and two carry-ons. It just meant we had a little dance with the door to get them in one at a time. Our room was a step down off the corridor, so lifting on and off the Heathrow trolley was a bit of an effort since someone (not that I'm naming names) had done a fair amount of shopping for cheese the day before we left! The corridor is just a bit wider than the trolleys, so if you have several checked pieces you should drop them off at Left Luggage if you are staying for any length of time. We checked in at 4pm and left at 6am.

My one complaint would be that there was only one towel in the bathroom despite a booking for two people.

Would I use them again? Probably, but only if I can't get a good deal at a traditional hotel, and only if my flight timings were early in the morning.
