Exclamation Severe weather warnings issued as storms hit UK

BBC: Severe weather warnings issued as storms hit UK

High winds are affecting train service, airports, roads, etc. across the UK.

Numerous cancellations listed on the LHR site, I expect the same for other airports and such.

My drive in to work this morning was very blustery!

My husband is stuck on the rail network somewhere (overhead lines down near Stratford). His destination is Southampton Airport from where he is due to catch a Trislander flight to Alderney this afternoon.

He may or may not get to SOU today. I doubt he'll get to Alderney.

The transport network is a mess.

The Chiltern, East Coast, and Anglia mainlines all have blockages, which are only partially resolved.

Glasgow Central and Queen Street High Level, and Edinburgh Waverley, are seeing almost all services cancelled due to high winds.

The Kingston Bridge (M8) in Glasgow was closed due to two lorries overturning on it earlier today (this was the reason for closing Glasgow Central). Several other Scottish roads are being affected as winds of over 90mph are being recorded.

Edinburgh has gusted up to over 100 mph - it's as well it's a bank holiday today, I'm not putting my nose out the door until i have to go out later this evening!

See the Forth Road Bridge was closed again - second time in a few weeks. Can someone remind me why it's better to build a second Forth Road Bridge rather than a tunnel across the Firth?

Because we can barely afford a bridge?
