Is standing allowed on Eurostar?

I know in normal circumstances everyone who travels on Eurostar is pre-allocated a seat but when there's delays and massive queues like today will they allow passengers to travel without a seat?

The Eurostar journeys are a lot shorter than many popular domestic InterCity routes where standing is allowed.

I suspect there are capacity restrictions based on evacuation plans for the channel tunnel section.

However, given there are high speed services to Dover from St Pancras, and that the ferry companies are taking same-day foot passenger bookings, I'm surprised they haven't got together to send some people off down this route...

Actually, scratch that, I'm not in the least surprised.

I travelled once on Eurostar (when LHR got closed for some reason - don't remember what it was) and there were some people sitting on small folding chairs in the exit area or standing in the aisle.

I don't know about now, but they were certainly doing this last winter when the Eurostar was shut down (due to "the wrong type of snow").

Standing is certainly allowed in the bar cars...
