Recent Restaurant Recommendations in Dublin

Seems like the thread in here is over a year old. I'm already booked at Pichet. The hotel recommended the places below. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Italian: Il Posto, Il Vicoletto, Bocaccio
French: Bleu Bistro, Les Freres Jacques, L'Ecrivain
Irish: The Pig's Ear, Gallagher's Boxty House, Elephant & Castle, Tea Room, Thorton's
European: Town Bar & Grill, Peploe's, Fire
Steak: Shanahan's On the Green, Marco Pierre White, FXB
Pub: O'Neils, Bull & Castle, Blarney Inn
Indian: Jaipur
Sushi: Yamamori
Thai: Diep Le Shaker, Saba
Chinese: Imperial

I really like Yamamori, personally (there are two, but I believe the menu's are pretty similar). It's not 5* dining, but it's good food, good portions and a not too insane price.

Strike the Irish and Pub list.
Thai - Diep is overpriced - go for the Chili Club instead. Better location and nice pubs 20m away.
Euro: Town Bar is very 'in' right now.
Most of the others are pretty good, but the French list is heavily over-priced.

I'd second the Chili Club, but you need to book (or did, the last time I went there).

Thanks all. Have you all tried Pichet? Are there others that you would try over it?

I ate in Diep last night. The food was very good, but as stated above, on the pricey side.

The restaurant was full. Recession, what recession...?

Thanks. I havent had a chance to look at their site/menu, but will in the next few days. I only have 4 days and nights there, but want to hit as many spots as possible.

The Cliff Town House is new on St.Stephens Green. Fantastic food, its a sister property to the michelin starred Cliff House in Ardmore.

How about reasonably priced restaurants you would recommend in the Dublin area? Specifically:

1) Kebab
2) Japanese
3) Anything outside of pub food

Will be arriving tomorrow. Thanks in advance!

UPDATE: Yamamori, ok but incredibly overpriced. Not worth it.

Found a gem up in Dublin 9: Chilli Banana, (thai) 112 Upper Drumcondra Road--directly across from the "Best Western" Reasonable and divine.

Hello, doing homework on what to eat in Dublin...

Read that the Irish (native) oyster season is Sep-April
https://www.irishtimes.com/food/2024...em-all-summer/

It is seasonal, as it spawns during the summer months in Irish waters. It is not available during this time (July)
So I looked at what's in season for July
https://slowfoodireland.com/seasonal/
and under shellfish there is....Oyster – Gigas aka the Pacific/Kumamato oyster....
https://www.ireland-guide.com/article/oysters.8015.html

Question is...should I still seek out an oyster bar - one of my favourite restaurants in the world is Swan's in San Francisco, when the native oyster is n/a?

~

Not on the slowfood guide but this site says wild Irish salmons season starts in May and peaking in August
https://www.kerryfish.com/where-do-w...-irish-salmon/
Are there places in Dublin where one can get smoked wild irish salmon? Ideally the deli/DIY sort?
In Madrid/Spain, we get plenty of farmed salmon (Norway), and wild Scottish (smoked), though costly, would love to taste a wild Irish.

Thank you!

On oysters, the article is correct that native flats can only be eaten “when there is an r in the month”. Irish grown gigas will be available in the summer though.

in terms of locations, I’d suggest the Seafood Cafe in Templebar, a little rough and ready but provenance is unquestionable.

You’ll inevitably get directed towards Matt the Threshers, but I’m not a fan, I find it a bit of a tourist trap. If you want more formal style try Sole restaurant, or even perish the thought, Hawksmoor steakhouse.

On wild salmon, that’s a tougher ask as supply is so low. I could recommend fishmongers who will likely sell it raw, but in terms of smoked, have a look at the Cork producer Frank Hederman’s (his salmon is top notch, Burren smokehouse also good but not in the same league) list of Dublin stockists and perhaps ring around when you’re here.
