Driving from Kinsale to Dingle
 

I will be visiting Ireland for the first time next month. The half of me that is Irish is particularly looking forward! :) We'll be taking a full day to drive from Kinsale to Dingle. Do any FlyerTalkers have recommendations of towns worth stopping in along the way, as well as suggestions for any other recommended stops or side trips during this drive? Excluding stops, roughly how long should we expect this drive to take? Thanks much for any insights!

That's a lovely trip and I'd recommend taking the scenic route via Clonakilty, Skibbereen and Kenmare on the N71 which also takes you through the Killarney National Park, into Killarney and then on via the R561 into Dingle. Heaps to see en-route...

It's about a 4 hour drive excluding stops

Thanks for that info, Babaduck. We were contemplating going that longer route as you suggest, but were concerned about how much additional driving time would be added by going that route. How much longer will that take? Thanks!

I actually calculated the route (using Google Maps) going via each of those places...obviously on a straight run & not actually stopping :D
