That's an excellent idea. And you're right I wasn't planning on getting much sleep anyway so this would work. No need to worry about the family as they live in the UK so they'll be spending Christmas at home.

I think I'll go this route, seems like a pretty safe bet. This way I can check-in, hopefully not have to rush, and get a shower in the lounge before I get on the long flight home. Thanks guys!

If I'd known how enthuiastic you'd be about the coach I'd have suggested it myself! I was thinking that National Express doesn't really tie in with flying J. :D

I've used the overnight coach myself a number of times and whilst it offers little in terms of comfort it is reliable. Be aware that Chorlton Street where the coach station is located is not the finest part of Manchester's City Centre so keep your wits about you.

I've got a 10 am flight on American Airlines back to the states so need to get a very early train from Manchester to get to Heathrow in time for my flight. I've looked on Virgin Trains and have found a train that will get me to Euston at 7:30 am and then from there it has me taking the tube to Paddington to get the Heathrow Express. It doesn't look like Euston is that far away from Paddington so hopefully I'd make the 8:10 am or 7:55 train to Heathrow.

I would say this is fine, personally, and don't worry about all the scaremongering from others.

(I would say, though, that if you have a ticket with restrictions there is *no* chance that the LHR AA staff will rebook you on a later flight without paying change fee and fare difference: they are sticklers for that sort of thing.)

Walk from Euston to Euston Sq tube station, and you can take the Hammersmith and City or Circle line straight to Paddington.

I almost always check in at LHR close to baggage cut off time -- I once did so at T-45, but they have now extended the limit to T-60. It isn't difficult, especially if you can use the J or F desks to check in (or perhaps even the outside flagship checkin in the forecourt that replaced the Park Avenue shack they used to have). The AA employees patrolling the lines called my flight the last time I was close to cut off, and made sure anyone who still needed to checkin was processed before it was too late.

Even an 8.10am HEx will get you there by 8.35 which is ample time. Don't lose a night's sleep on the bus: not really worth it.

Your business class boarding pass will get you through Fast Track security, which cuts a lot of time at LHR.

Skip the AA lounge: assuming you have at least PLT status which would give you access, the new BA Galleries has a good breakfast selection. There's decent espresso/cappuccino from a push-button self service machine, and a selection of cold cereals with dried fruit for toppings, as well as some OK-looking pastries (didn't taste them: had too little time).

Note, though, that BA Galleries (as well as AA's AC) is quite far from the new gates AA now use: not the ones at the end of the T-pier (pier 7) but the ones in the 30-40 range at the end of pier 5. The signs warn the walk takes "20 minutes" -- that's probably only for the elderly: you can make it in less than 10 if you run but you'll get there in quite a sweat.

PM me if you want more info: have a good flight.
