Double Miles

In case anyone missed it, TWA is offering the same double miles promo as American.
Promo code is 31011. See TWA site for details.

Hmm, the question that needs to be answered for elite members is which miles are doubled? Elites receive a minimum 1,000 miles per flight segment, then a bonus of either 25% or 50% or 100% depending on status. If elites get a bonus equal to their minimum miles than this is big news. A MCI-STL-BNA roundtrip for $80 would yield:

4,000 status miles
4,000 bonus miles
1,000/2,000/4,000 elite bonus miles
1,000 online booking bonus

Pretty good to get 10,000 miles (in my case) for $80.

I too am thinking the same thing, what gets
doubled?

The last time we had a doubling, it was pretty lame.

sea-stl-lgw got me exactly double miles, so basically the plt bonus, no extra .5 elite one bonus, so it was sort of useless. However, the fact that TWA gives a minumum of 1000 miles per segment for short hops as an elite1 makes my 317 mile hop stl-mke, quite tantalizing....

BTW, good luck calling to figure out what this bonus really gets you. It appears they are down to one elite1/plt aviator service center. I wanted to change upcoming seat assignments and I was on hold for 45 minutes.

fwiw, apparently there was a double miles promo in April/May 2000. At that time, I got 2250 miles for all segments under 1000 miles (1000 minimum, 1000 for doubling, and 250 elite bonus).
For segments over 1000 miles, it appears to have given me double actual mileage, plus a 25% bonus based on the actual mileage.

DVC, thanks for that news. I didn't bother calling the service center to find out for exactly the reason lalala sets forth. In any case with TWA the proof is always in the pudding and hopefully someone will report within the next week what posts to their account.

A IND-STL flight for a TW Plat...

1000 actual miles
1000 miles Plat Bonus
1000 "double" bonus miles
1000 web booking bonus miles
43 Plat fare reward miles

4543 total miles for a 30 min flight...

Thanks socal, I believe that answers our questions. I believe that for short-haul around the midwest that it makes much more sense for Elites to credit flights to their TWA account.

The one item outstanding is that I believe if you credit to AA, every 10,000 miles or so (flight miles I believe) you get 4 upgrade credits that you can turn back in for 10,000 miles. This would affect the total mile calculation. But for the short midwest flights, perhaps not so much. I was considering a mile-run to Japan on the sale fare and in that case you would get the 4 upgrade credits which could become 10,000 miles.

Time to fly!!

Also, don't miss the $410 Hawaii fares. Lots of miles there.
