dormant (dead?) FFB account

This is probably a dumb question, but I would appreciate any advide. I have an old FFB statement and assumed my miles transferred to the Aviators program. Is this account still active if I haven't flown them in a few years? I'd heard the commercials for the Aviators program but assumed everyone just rolled over into the new program.

I was hoping this account would be eligible to combine with my Advantage account.

Yes, that account is "alive and kicking." Frequent Flight Bonus Program miles "never" expire. Of course, after the November switch over, they will be dead. So, make sure you contact AAdvantage to set up the transfer (if you haven't already received a letter notifying you that your account is already set up).

TWA is becoming American Airlines...

Two Great Airlines, One Great Future

Hmmm. I'm not quite clear on this. Is there a difference between FFB Program and Aviators program? I thought they were one and the same...?

Since I haven't flown TWA since summer 1995 (just circumstance), and have started to get these info bulletins regarding AA acquisition, I'm not sure exactly just what the status is.

And since the transfer of miles from TWA program to AAdvantage program is for bonus miles, does this mean that these miles count toward AA million miles?

Thanks in advance.

Then:

Welcome to Aviators

Aviators, an entirely new frequent flyer program, replaced TWA's Frequent Flight Bonus (FFB) Program on May 1, 1998.

- The Aviators program officially began on May 1, 1998. All miles earned on or after this date accrue as Aviators miles. FFB Miles can no longer be accrued.

- FFB Miles (including equity and non-equity miles) will continue to have no expiration date. Aviators miles earned on or after May 1, 1998 will not expire if, during the previous three calendar year period, the member either 1) purchases a ticket and flies on TWA/Trans World Express or 2) accumulates a minimum of 10,000 bonus miles through partner activity.

- FFB Program awards are no longer available for redemption (as of April 30, 1999).

- Aviators miles may be combined with FFB miles for award redemption

Now:

- All unused miles (remaining FFB program miles, both equity and non-equity AND Aviators) will be credited to your AAdvantage account as a one-time bonus transfer when the Aviators program comes to an end on November 30.

BOTTOM LINE: Aviators/FFB equity/FFB non-equity doesn't matter. Before the conversion to advantage, rewards are available from the Aviators award charts (not the FFB charts). Otherwise, when Aviators terminates, your miles (Aviators/FFB equity/FFB non-equity) will ALL convert to AAdvantage miles.

As for couting towards million mile status with AAdvantage... YES!

TransWorldOne, my thanks for a concise and thorough layout of the info I needed. Your thoughtfulness is greatly appreciated.

My FFB miles were automatically transferred to Aviators and now show up with NO expiration date. After the transfer to AA I am assuming that they will lose that non-expiration status and just get renewed for 3 yrs with each transaction.

My 14.9k FFB miles were transferred to Aadvantage as bonus miles, so, yes, they expire in 3 years if you have no other activity in your Aadvantage account. The FFB transaction itself resets the 3-year clock on the Aadvantage account.
