how to upgrade to first class
 

Can I wait until the day of flt and ask agent for an upgrade from a v ticket to first class? I am going to kona via stl.

You may have trouble on that route but you can look to purchase an upgrade on the day of flight. They are sold beginning two hours prior to departure (if you're leaving from NYC you can purchase the entire trip at JFK/LGA). The cost is something like $25-50 per 500 mile segment - depending on your status. It's probably 5500 to 6000 miles OW to KOA from NYC.

After posting my msg I receive a coupon for a way upgrade. I have 2 other family members traveling with me since the first seg is sold put in first class do I wait until I get to the connecting city to purchase the upgrade? and question # 2 can the otherfamily purchase upgrades also?the coupon tells me how much it will cost based on the amount of miles.
