Equity Miles
 

Well, I guess I missed the boat because TWA had my old address and I never got the mailings, but please help me out:

My account shows that I have 220,000 equity miles, which used to be enough for 2 RTW first class (I know they eliminated that one, although they told me a while back that they would honor it)...

Anyway, ignoring AA, am I just out of luck with any different value/redemption for my equity miles?

TWA's "equity" miles lost any special value some time ago. To redeem them under the old equity scheme one had to redeem for an award certificate by the end of 1999. The certificate itself was good for one year by which time one had to have made reservations (in exchange for the certificate) which could mean actual travel could be postponed until 2001.

At least your large number of TWA miles will allow you to have options once they're transferred to American.

Your recollection matches mine (cash in by the end of 1999 for a cert, convert the cert by the end of 2000 for a ticket and fly by the end of 2001). I don't know why they still show the equity status, but one person on the web here said that they have been able to use the old award charts (or so they inferred). And of course, those days were great. For 200,000 miles you could get four first class tickets to Europe PLUS four first class upgrades to Europe. Right now (depending on where you are going) it could take 560,000 miles for the same award (4x100k for the free tickets and 4x40k for the upgrades).

Yep! I burned up most of mine, except about 20K, under the old schedule!
