Terminal 5 at JFK

I have a book called "The Architectural Traveler" which lists 250 buildings in the US "Key 20th-Century American Buildings". One of them was the TWA terminal at JFK. I was passing through JFK this week so I took the airtrain to Terminal 5. I was a little surprised to see it not being used. Also I was
surprised that TWA signs were still around the building.

I walked up to the building and there was a guard just inside the door and
a small number of people walking around, all photographers. I asked if I
could look at the building, or even stand for a minute inside the door and was told no, but it looked pretty interesting from the windows.

Does anyone know the likely future for this building? I passed through JFK a couple times on TWA flights to Europe, but I have no specific memory of this terminal before.

I believe that a facility is going to built on that site for Jet Blue. If I remember correctly, the old structure is going to stay and the actual Jet Blue facility is to be built behind the old TWA building.

jetBlue passenger can check in electronically using self service machines in the current Saarinen building. It's really an awesome building, used to fly out of it alot when TWA was around. jetBlue is a great Airline and ahead of its times and should be a perfect fit for Terminal 5.

I flew into JFK recently with my wife and was excited to see this building from the AirTrain. In 1999, my dad and I drove down from MA to go to a Sox-Yankees game (it was the famous Pedro-Clemens dual, 2-0 Sox) and visited JFK just for the heck of it as the last time I had been there I was a child. We spent a lot of time in the TWA terminal, I loved it.

Seeing it again made me VERY nostalgic...but I'm glad it will be preserved at least. It was like entering another era, and for me anyway, that was not a bad thing. I'm a huge aviation fan, and my first memories were all TWA...flew BOS-LAX a lot, and then one time was I was 8 we did BOS-CDG on an L1011 in first class, return from LHR in business. I'll never forget that.
