How to keep Elite+ Status?

https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...004f335f65.jpg

Hello hello
I am Elite plus until 2027 if I understand correctly.
What will happen if I no longer take TK until this date?
Which is impossible...
Soft landing for Elite? And Elite again until 2029?
Anything else?
When should I start accumulating my 40,000 miles to remain Elite+ in 2027?
Thank you very Much🙏

Your status miles will start counting towards renewal in the first year of your renewed Elite Plus accoring to the info on TK www. You need to earn 40.000 status miles in the first year of the renewed Elite Plus. TK has soft landing yes.

I am fairly new to TK but your current status ends 31 Jul 2025, with obviously more than enough miles accrued to be Elite plus for another 2 years from there till 31 July 2027. From that moment it is accrueing 40k miles in the first new status year (till 31 Jul 2026) or 60k miles till in the full 2 years till July 2027 (it could be there are slightly lower numbers for non Turkish nationals) to maintain Elite plus for another 2 years from 1 August 2027. If you do not make it, you will soft land to Elite. An interesting feature is that you can buy some 10k status miles if needed.

Not sure if requalification by 31 July 2026 gives you 2 years from 31 July 2027. Interested in that too, but for Elite

Important point indeed since if you fly 25k (for Elite) till 31 July 2026 for 2 years extra from 31 July 2027 there is no incentive to fly TK or *A in the year in between. However, this is how I understand the system (also given the many posts here and under the status match thread). Will see what happens by October when I have done 25k while being Elite for 1 year.

There is indeed "no incentive to fly TK or *A in the year in between". Except of course if you want *G to actually use it, rather than to just collect shiny cards.

Thanks for the confirmation! Sure, *G is only useful if you use it, but not having the pressure to qualify in that year in between and e.g. use your points for award flights is nice. Or to work on status with another alliance.

It is not just about collecting shiny cards - having say 2 of these cards gives flexibility in airline choice. I am recently status matched to TK and all of a sudden I have fast lanes, free seat selection, free bags and lounge access on TK and *A carriers, which become now a good alternative for ST where I have status as well, particularly if they offer considerably lower prices. Without the perks the price difference often vanishes by paying for seats and bags.

"Collecting shiny cards" is exactly what you are doing if you "or to work on status with another alliance". I understand that sounds a bit extreme, but there's a certain FT mentality which means that everything has to "mean something". Any paid airfare needs to be working towards elite status or every hotel night needs to be counting for status (re)qualification. For many people around FT, it's the thrill of the chase, not the benefits themselves - even if they have convinced themselves otherwise.

If you really really pause to look at it in detail, for everybody other than the most frequent of flyers, maintaining elite status in 2 or 3 alliances costs more than "the price difference of paying for seats and bags", which BTW isn't at all a *A-wide benefit for TK elites. (and a lot of people will just OLCI to grab their preferred seat type and travel HBO when necessary) Use your miles, fly on the best airline option for each itinerary, spend OPM exclusively, or even simply be totally loyal to your home country's airline. But if you're really travelling enough to benefit from elite status, you are earning it organically anyhow.

I'm flying a lot and often i take united.
That's why I'm going to put a few trips on my UA account just to keep my Silver and benefit from Seats Plus for free at check-in.
Otherwise everything on TK!

Sure, you have to be careful - chasing too much status can turn out to be much more expensive as just looking for the cheapest deals, paying for your seat and luggage when needed, and using a say 200-300 Euro CC like MC Black giving you lounge access. At some point I had A3 as *A back up - around 2011 once qualified as Gold you had it for life - I qualified in a year where I flew enough to maintain Gold with FB as well. That could not last, and when around 2014 A3 went to an annual requalification scheme I dropped it - too much money for little value added. But for me it works now - almost PfL at AF/KL so no pressure there, and the status match plus some cheap J TK flights I felt ok to use for travels I needed to do anyway give me 2 alliance flexibility for the next years.

For non turkish nationals, its 25,000 Status Miles in the first year or 37,500 Status Miles in the two-year membership period for members to maintain Elite membership versus 30,000 Status Miles in 1st Year or 45,000 Status Miles in 2 Years for Turkish nationals. Does anyone know if Elite Plus renewal also requires less miles for non Turkish nationals or is it the same for elite plus.

Thanks

Same for everyone, 40k in first membership year or 60k in two years.

I earned 61k status miles last two years. However, I got downgraded to Elite as of today (1/Jun/2025). I will raise a feedback and see if they will manually adjust me back to Elite Plus.. Has this happened to others as well?

Yes. Same here!
I had 40+k in the first year and same outcome today, Elite Status downgrade.

would be nice to receive you’re feedback, might they need some manuals modifications.

I’ll be in IST in 3 hours, heading to the Miles Smiles booth for sure!
