Star Alliance Gold: increased luggage allowance

Hello..as Star Alliance Gold flying from IST to MIA, is there an extra luggage allowance over the 2 bags of 23 kg in economy?
also upon arriival in MIA on nighttime flight what are the logistics of accessing the TK Lounge upon arrival before connecting UA flight? Can I enter the lounge open arrival and then again upon departure some 8 hours later. Thank you.

From years of flying with TK, I never had a problem with published baggage regulations. The check in counter agents many not know the regulations but always after correcting them and showing a picture of the regulations, they comply.

Same here. I had once an agent who didn't know that elite has +20 kg.

Star Alliance Gold: increased luggage allowance

Hello..This is a simple request.
on a recent THY flight from IST to IAH on an economy award ticket using UA miles, I encountered multiple problems in receiving additional checked luggage allowance in IST.

On the M&S website, allowance is 2 bags at 23.kgs. plus one additional checked bag of 23 kgs for being StarAlliance Gold.

I am flying the same itinerary next week. Should I expect to have check in difficulties with 3 checked bags of 23 kgs each?

Will a screenshot of the THY website be sufficient for check in?

Thanks

In recent years UA award ticket on TK metal had lower baggage allowance than stated by UA. I suggest you login to UA website and get the TK PNR of your flight and then login to TK website and see how much allowance you actually have.

Flyerby. It was actually on the Turkish Airlines website that shows the increased luggage allowance for StarAlliance Gold members. In fact. I was using the TK PNR to access this information from the TK website. . Is the THY website incorrect?

Thanks for your reply.

If you have looked the TK PNR up on the TK website and it states 2 checked bags allowed for your ticket, I dont expect any issues getting a third bag due to being UA gold.

BTW how much luggage are you traveling with? 3x 23 kg is a lot.

Yes. Unfortunately, will be flying with 3 bags X. 23kgs. The THY website shows free allowance in economy as 2 checked bags plus one hand carried. It further goes on to display TK elite cards adding an additional checked bag of 23kgs. The elite cards refer to StarAlliance Gold members as well. Is it possible that the extra allowance for an additional checked bsg of 23kgs is omly for TK elite card holders and not for.all other StarAlliance Gold members of other Alliance airllines?

No, it is for Star Alliance Gold as well.

Maybe you are overthinking this? I believe we have yet to hear of any Star Alliance Gold member being denied 1 extra checked bag.

Something doesnt add up. Can you explain what were the multiple problems you encountered while checking in? What exactly did the agent say and how was the situation resolved?

Thanks.

Not meaning to overblow this past check-in experience in IST, but needed 2 supervisors to be called to the check-in agent, but finally after some discussions the 3rd bag was accepted. I only wanted to be certain during next weeks flight that I was on firm footing in insisting for the free 3rd bag.

Flyby and others, thanks much for your collective posts.
