Reimbursement of luggage repair costs?

Reimbursement of luggage repair costs?

Corner/wheel of my Rimowa Topas check-in bag (EUR 1000+) was damaged on a recent TK flight. Damaged report issued by TK bagage service with instructions to contact customer service via an online form.

It’’s not a case of total damage as the bag can probably be repaired by Rimowa - does anyone have experience/know what will happen if I contact TK in this case? I could also use my private insurance…

Airlines do have a baggage damage insurance. I had a similar case with AY when my Rimowa check-in bag was damaged, lock was broken and lower side of the bag was taped when received from belt. Damage report was issued through customer service line since I already exited the baggage area when noticed that. I took the bag to Rimowa repair facility and they change the lock under the warranty, only charged for cleaning the bag(glue from the tape removal etc.). Took less than an hour to fix that. I sent the receipt to AY and they refunded the full amount during a few working days. Should be similar procedure with TK except the banking transfer time.

Thank you for sharing. The warranty on my bag has experienced so repair costs might be a bit steep. I was hoping someone had experience with TK in a similar case.

In any case you should fix it first and then forward the expenses to TK or your travel insurance provider.

The RIMOWA store in Barcelona was very helpful and replaced the broken parts in 3 days for EUR 68. I have uploaded the receipt to my file with TK and requested reimbursement​​​​​.

Update: After evaluating the claim, TK confirmed they will cover the repair costs and have asked for my bank details (swift and IBAN).
