Check in bags in IST for next morning?

Hi, I arrive late afternoon into IST and continuing on a separate ticket to BCN with THY the following morning. Will it possible to check in my bags for the morning the flight the evening before so I don’t have to take them the with me my hotel. I’m in eco, MS Elite.

Yes, you could.
Even if you are connecting within separate tickets, TK also allows through checking baggage on separate tickets so you could also ask them to check through your baggage to Barcelona, at your first point of departure.

Thank you very much for your prompt reply. My first point of departure is a domestic airport in Denmark and the ticket is issued by KLM AAL-AMS-OTP-IST so a little doubtful groundstaff in AAL will be able to tag the bag all the way to BCN - but I’ll give it a try 😀

Wasn’t able to check bags through to final destination BCN due to very messy itinerary AAL/AMS/OTP/IST issued by KLM containing a Tarom flight operated by TK) and felt lucky even to receive my bag on the belt in IST since gate staff in OTP informed me it might not be loaded to IST because I hadn’t contacted the transfer desk on arrival in OTP (no one told me to and the bag was tagged to IST so not sure what the issue was).

According to TK ground staff in the baggage area in IST, it was not possible to check in my bag for the following day’s flight to BCN. If someone else has a different in-person experience, would you mind sharing how this is done?

AAL to BCN via AMS, OTP and IST ? Seems to be a solid candidate for one of the most weird itineraries of the year...

haha yes not much fun. Combination of tickets paid by employer and myself, and cancelled flights.

I see that you already traveled and got your answer. However, as a former airline employee I would admonish anyone from checking bags with a long layover. There is far too much risk in leaving luggage unattended overnight: theft, rain, something being slipped into your bag, etc.

Back in 2015, I arrived from NRT in Istanbul old airport with TK in the morning and wanted to travel the same evening on TK to Germany. I checked my luggage to Istanbul short, since I had to pick up things there. When I wanted to check in my luggage, I was denied to check my luggage in because there were two more flights to the same destination on the same day before my flight.

Seems, that nothing changed in this point.

I guess KLM/Tarom and TK don't have interline agreement (sometimes I encounter some incompetent airport ground staff that have no idea what they are doing at CPH, so it might have been possible but they either don't know or won't do it). I did a crazy transfer HAM/IST/TPE/OKA/FUK with TK and BR with an overnight layover at TPE. I got the bags all the way to FUK without any issue (apparently that's the most transfer they could handle).

Not many airlines/airports offer the night before bag drop off. I know LAX doesn't allow that, and at CPH only SK and LH allow that.

Thanks. I originated in AAL and was supposed to continue to IST via AMS but the KLM flight AMS-IST got cancelled and I was rerouted via OTP. The OTP/IST was issued as a Tarom flight number by KLM, and the bag was tagged to IST. I got the impression the issues related transit bagage in OTP had more to do with Schengen to non-Schengen or customs but not sure 😊
