Not releasing J class for certain routes?
Hi All,
I am planning a trip to far east and am looking for J class availability.
I noticed for certain routes (e.g. IST to HKG, HND, TPE, KUL etc...) the cheapest business is of K class, all the way starting from now till June 2023. But for BKK, there is J class availability almost every day except Christmas time.
Is this common? Would TK release J class later on? No J class means no elite plus upgrade voucher!
Thanks.

It does seem that some routes do seem to only offer K at a minimum. I was looking at flying into VIE next year and they also seem to start as a K class fare [EDIT or not]. Admittedly, this is a sample size of one route, but there are some south east Asian routes offering J (from Australia at any rate) including SIN and, as you note, BKK...

I'm afraid that, this is called revenue management. TK did this for a long-time pre-COVID, especially for popular routes like Los Angeles at peak seasons.
At the moment, most of the destinations that you have shared ( HKG, HND, TPE, KUL ) are not served by competitors of have fewer competitors since some of them pulled their routes to that region because of increasing fuel costs and their own decision not using Russian airspace increasing expenses for them.
In addition, HKG, HND, and TPE requires a quarantine/self-isolation which means that those who would fly there are likely flying there because it's a **must** for them. In that case, at a revenue management perspective, it looks pretty logical for TK to block discounted "J" inventory.

At the moment on TK's website, only K and D fare code is offered for TK r/t AMS-IST-BKK for summer 2024. BKK has quite some competition. Why would advance booking for summer 2024 not show any J fare code availability?
ITA Matrix with 'Only show flights and prices with available seats' option enabled, does show J fare code availability.
Would it be wise to wait for TK to release J fare code availability on their website?
