What happened to Turkish Air's BA 787-9?

Before the pandemic, Turkish was operating the 787-9 on the IST-KUL route but now seems to have only the 777-300 on this route for the whole summer. Anyone knows if this is temporary or have they decided to use the 777 going forward?

They removed it for IST-SIN too. Wondered what happened to their 787 and A350 fleet. Thought they would be using it for their US and other long haul destinations.

TK regularly changes equipment to suit demand. The B777 has space for 30 more economy and 19 more business pax compared to the B787-9.

This give you an idea where the B787-9 is flying at this very moment:

They are pulled to transatlantic increased frequencies. For example IST MIA is daily 2x (787 and 777) now. Before covid it was 1x 777.

I still prefer 777 J cabin though.
flyjfk and Harper50505 like this.

Yes I think generally I would prefer the 777 also especially when travelling as a family. Since I arleady booked the J segment on 777 from US to IST, I was hoping to try out the 787-9 also.

Flown both the 787 and 777 over a few sectors the last few months, I used to prefer the 777 because of the leg room but after flying the 787, the seat actually feels wider than the 777 for the upper body and I definitely got a better sleep than on the 777. Its also easier to watch movies on the 787 as the screen is bigger and closer to you. I hope they upgrade their 777 and 330 cabins soon

That'st good to know! Hopefully TK switches back to the 787 on my 2nd route by that time.

Seems they have pulled the 787 from the MEX/CUN route.. pity. Was hoping for the newest cabin on such a long flight.

There is too much demand for Mexico City and Cancun as Mexico doesn't have entry restrictions as well as the accommodation options and cost-of-tourism is much cheaper than many other destinations where TK flies.
