When Does Status Miles Accrue Time Start
If i am starting to accrue miles (forget status matches etc)... from what date is the "status valid from."
For example, you need 40,000 miles to achieve elite.
If i take a flight on 5/15/21, for example, will i have until 5/15/22 to earn 40,000 miles to earn the elite status?
Or does the 1 year clock start from the day i joined? From Jan 1st?
How does that 1 year clock start from a status earning perspective?
Thanks.

TK does not follow a calendar year format.
For Elite, you would need to earn 40000 miles in any 365 day interval. The system is capable to calculate this and once you achieved 40000 status miles within a 365 day interval, you would be upgraded to Elite status.

Just to add on a sort of relevant question, how does renewal work?
Reading the website my understanding is that once you earn Elite, you either earn 25,000 miles within next 1 year, or earn 37,500 within next 2 years to maintain status.
So does the effectively mean that once you earned Elite initially (by earning 40,000 miles in 1 year) you maintain this status for 2 years? Ie. Earn Elite Jan 10, 2022, even though credit nothing to TK, will keep Elite status till Jan 09, 2024?
How does it work when during your renewal period, you manage to earn 25,000 within 1 year? Does this immediately then restart another 2 year cycle?
Ie. Earn Elite Jan 10, 2022, credit 25,000 miles to TK on June 10, 2022, does this reset the clock, such that the new "renewal" period is June 10, 2022 - June 09, 2024?

Some people go onwards to Elite Plus, which means you could reset your cycle yet again if you hit 80k within any 12-month period (that doesn't have anything to do with your Elite renewal cycle).
But once you have reached the requalification criteria for Elite and if you have no interest in reaching Elite Plus, then any status miles beyond those 25k (or 37.5k over 2 years) are wasted.

Earn Elite on Jan 10, 2022, you have 2 years of status for sure. You also have until Jan 9 2023 to accumulate 25k miles for renewal. Then you sit around not worrying about status until Jan 10 2024, at which point your status would extend until Jan 9 2026 and a new cycle begins.

Thus the corrected version would be;

Just a small correction that if someone earns elite on Jan 10, 2022; his status would be valid until Jan 31, 2024 and his second requalification period would end then. His first requalification period would still end on Jan 9, 2023.
Thus the corrected version would be;
Card expires and end of 2nd requalification periods are always ending at the last day of a month.
