THE WIKI IS NOT UP TO DATE - IT WOULD BE UPDATED IN DUE COURSE

Please read the WIKI before asking your question as it has the most essential information about the Miles&Smiles extensions due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

As 31 March 2020;
- Turkish Airlines has extended every member's status for another 6 months and members' requalification periods ( on 31 March 2020 ) are extended to 18 months.
- The expiry date of current Elite Plus vouchers is extended for 6 months. The next Elite Plus vouchers that are scheduled to be deposited to your account would be deposited 6 months later than the original date.

Example Scenarios:

Original Card Expiry: 30 September 2020
New Card Expiry: 31 March 2021 ( 2nd Re-Qualification period extended 6 months )
Now
in: 2nd Re-Qualification Period
If Elite Plus member;

Revised expiry date of active ELPL vouchers: 31 March 2021
New vouchers would be deposited
on: 1 April 2021 ( if requalified )

Original Card Expiry: 31 January 2022
New Card Expiry: 31 July 2022 ( 1st Re-Qualification period extended 6 months )
Now
in: 1st Re-Qualification Period
If Elite Plus member;

Revised expiry date of active ELPL vouchers: 31 July 2021
New vouchers would be deposited
on: 1 August 2021

- The 12 month period for status qualification/upgrade still remains the same. However, TK doubled the number ( limit ) of purchasable status miles for those who were close to a status upgrade.

So, you are safe until 31 January 2023 and your Elite status would be extended until 31 January 2025. The status miles that you earn until 31 January 2023 would only count for your qualification to Elite Plus.
After 1 February 2023, your new requalification period would start and you would need to earn 25k miles until 31 January 2024 or 37.5k miles until 31 January 2025 to extend your Elite status until 2027.

Thanks! That means that my "end/starting" month will be no longer July but January, right?

A procedure a bit messy, for me, but indeed nice to have to wait until 2023 for requalification

You're welcome.
Yes, unless things change one more time, your end/starting month would be January.

Extension of miles expiration?

Received email last night from TK M&S that XXXX miles will expire 31. Dec. 2020 and TK urging me to use for award ticket, upgrade, extend miles expirations etc.

Any chance that M&S will postpone miles expiration once we get closer to 31 Dec 2020? - I assume that many members are in the same boat as me having a lot miles (of which some will expire soon) but with very few possibilities of traveling or otherwise spending miles currently.

I'm in the same boat, about 80k miles. Unless things change I guess I have to book a flight and keep changing the date.

I have received the same e-mail.
I guess it is an auto-email and they are trying to force people to use their expiring miles until the end of year.

If other airlines follow the norm, extend miles, TK would probably do so on a date in late-December.

Unless members would be in panic in the last days of December regarding their miles, I would highly suggest people wait with alternate plans using their miles until late-December.
Though it's not confirmed that TK would extend miles, they probably would.

One thing is a suggestion, other things are thoughts and believe without knowledge. Saying that TK tries to force use the miles when as per program rules they would expire anyway is lack of respect towards TK and incompetence. Things might go as you think and believe but they certainly go as TK decides and there were not even a consideration that they would extend the miles, therefore the emails were sent two months ahead, that M&S members could make decision soon enough.

The e-mail that was sent is in the e-mail template that was sent every year during these days ( November ) so I don't think TK has manually sent them.
To clarify, my post is a suggestion and I have clearly indicated that it's a suggestion. It's up to the members/visitors who read it to decide what to do or not.

Although, I would repeat the fact that I strongly think that this is a move to force people using their miles this year. Similar to what they did in the status extension, they might wait until the last day or they might not extend the validity of expiring miles at all; although it does not make any change if the miles are spent now or on the last week of December.

Obviously it was a suggestion to hold the redemption until last days but there is no force from TK side.It is your thinking not the repeating of the fact! Their message was: use them before expire date or miles will expire. A simple message. TK has not any obligation to extend the validation of the miles nor they waited until last day to extend the status as you wrote. Status is by month, not by calendar year. When I asked from them(HQ) about miles expiration extention, the answer was that they are not considering it.

We both agree on the part that TK has no obligation to extend the miles and we both agree that the message was "Use your expiring miles before they expire."
I also thank you for giving direct information from the HQ's.

Although the status extension has nothing related to the expiry of miles:

During the status extension, they've first answered that they are not considering an extension for Miles&Smiles status and then at the last minute, few hours before March 2020 year end members had their status expiring, they backed up.

Same for the second +12 month extension, they've waited for the very last moment as well; with only the +6 month extension, there would have been people dropping status on 30 September 2020 and before that date, TK's solution for this problem was to ask people purchasing status miles. On 30 September 2020, few hours before October, they backed up again.

IMO, ( again as an opinion ), I think that TK would extend the expiring miles at least at some point. Nobody has to agree with my opinion or follow it. My reasoning is from the status extension.
Plus, with an airline that could change their mind that quickly ( extending flight schedules, cancelling flights last-minute, putting placeholder schedules that are unreliable etc... during COVID days ), I also think that there are 48 days for TK to restructure their mind.

I agree with that, they are among the best doing this. Lets see to where it comes, I have 0 miles to expire this year.

Thank you AirCanada881 , now I have another possible scenario on what TK was thinking;

TK may send e-mails about extending the validity of miles in the near future so they could get $10 per 1000 miles when someone pays to extends the validity of their miles.

There would be M&S members who would consider using this option for their own personal comfort which would mean an additional revenue for TK.
