Turkish Elite "Protection" Enabled

So my Elite status expires on August 31, 2019. I have accumulated the 37500 status miles needed to requalify so the TK app shows "elite protection enabled." It still shows the expiration to be "31 Aug 2019." I believe that after august 31, it will add 2 additional years (or 31 Aug 2021). My question is...I have a flight coming up in June that will earn 10,000 elite status miles. Will this be applied for the renewal period post August 31, 2019? In other words, as of September 1, 2019, I will need to obtain another 25,000 miles (1 year) or 37,500 (2 years) to re-qualify. Does the 10,000 miles get applied toward this or does it not count because it was earned before 8/31/2019?

All status miles that you will get until August 31st will count only for membership period until August 31st. From September 1st you need to collect 25000 during the 1st year or 37500 during the 2 years to re-qualify again.

Wow...I was planning to fly from LAX to DPS in August...that would be about 24,000 status miles with TK....so I guess I should credit the miles somewhere else.

Be aware that if you could make 80000 status miles on TK just after from the first flight date of your LAX-DPS trip, you could aim for Elite Plus. So, you would need 56000 miles more until July 2020.

You still get your standard redeemable miles. It's always worth keeping in mind that a one-way reward in Business Class for most long-haul routes is 45K miles. Naturally you can credit to any other *A account, but you aren't getting anywhere in J for 45k miles...

But, yes, I do tend to focus on Oneworld during the second year of my TK re-qualification cycle, when status miles are basically wasted on TK...

If your schedule allows, fly starting September 1st, then those 24k miles would go into a new membership period.

Hi Prince Claudius Maximus and welcome to FlyerTalk!

You could protect your Elite status when flying with any Star Alliance member ( including Turkish Airlines ) and AnadoluJet.
