This is the list of all Istanbul Airport threads where you could find more details related to your question if it's discussed in one of the forums below.

TK in Istanbul Airport: Thread #1 - General Discussion ( YOU ARE HERE )
This is the thread that you could ask your questions about the airport related to Turkish Airlines which doesn't have a dedicated thread. For example questions about check-in desks, the Miniport service, fast-track security, care points, etc... could be asked here if they are directly or indirectly related to TK.
TK in Istanbul Airport: Thread #2 - Lounges
This is the thread dedicated for lounges and questions about the TK lounges at Istanbul Airport. Sleeping rooms in the lounge could be discussed in the third thread as it's mainly related to longer connections. Please do refer to the respective threads in the Europe forum for other contract lounges at Istanbul Airport and PriorityPass lounges.
TK in Istanbul Airport: Thread #3 - Stopover Hotel, Touristanbul, Sleeping Rooms
This is the thread for passengers booked a long connection. The thread has a guide that would give basic information about the free city tour, the stopover hotel option for eligible passengers as well as the sleeping rooms in the lounges in Istanbul Airport. For issues onlyrelated hotel suggestions refer to the Europe forum.
TK in Istanbul Airport: Thread #4 - Transferring/Transit at Istanbul Airport
This is the thread were you could ask your questions about any type of transfer at Istanbul Airport. Such as what to do within a xxx hour layover, or facilities at the transfer area directly related to transit issues. Also questions related to transfer security, immigration in single/seperate tickets could be discussed here. As well as what to do in case of misconnections. The transfer hotel where passengers could access by paying: YOTEL has a dedicated thread where you could find here.
TK in Istanbul Airport: Thread #5 - Miles&Smiles Card Pickup at Istanbul Airport
If you want to pickup your Miles&Smiles card in Istanbul Airport, please consult this thread where you would be able to find the locations of the card print points for Miles&Smiles members.

There are also threads not only related to the TK pax but to all passengers traveling from Istanbul Airport. These take place in the Europe forum.

Istanbul Airport Master Thread
For any question related to the airport instead of TK ( facilities, pay-to-use services not related to TK, transportation, rental car services, hotel services, non-TK lounges ) please consult this thread in the Europe forum. Also please discuss, Flightradar24 related ADS-B issues, delays related to the airport here, unless it's a direct TK issue.
PriorityPass Lounges in Istanbul Airport
There is no PriorityPass Lounges at Istanbul Airport at the moment. However, I would update this thread when there is an available lounge for PriorityPass at the airport.

I (ISTFlyer) have removed the FAQ's as they are now all answered in the respective WIKI sections of the respective forums.

The runways are west of the terminal building, I don’t think whatever is east is used for takeoff/landing.

But I noticed the same detour and couldn’t make much sense of it.

There are 2 sets of parallel runways west of the terminal, with maintenance areas in between. To get to the western set, they route you all the way around the south end of the eastern set instead of just crossing them.

Part of the problem is the fact that the terminal building is located south of the runways and not parallel to them (like so many other airports, LHR for example). If an aircraft lands from the south it has to taxi back a few kilometres... Another oddity (that has nothing to do with the long taxi times) is that the parallel runways are not entirely parallel (the two pairs are 16/34 and 17/35).

I believe they are actually parallel but there is no easy way to designate 4 parallel runways, so like LAX they offset the number (LA has 24R, 24L, 25R and 25L and all are parallel).

Interesting, thanks.

I wonder, BTW, what is planned for the eastern runways....

Any chance our flight from ISL to JFK on June 25 could have the upgraded business seat hard product? https://www.businesstraveller.com/bu...ss-class-seat/

No chance! The new business class product will only be introduced on the 787 and a350 and TK will take delivery of their first 787 some time end of June. They will first test the plane on domestic routes, first intl. destination will be DPS.
So sorry, no chance

Edit: I believe the 787 is scheduled on the JFK route from 29 March 2020 onwards...

Sorry if this question has been asked before but it’s become difficult to read through 53 pages.

How early can one check in at the airport with luggage on TK? Does TK operate a full day checkin desk?

In the old IST, you can do so 24 hours before as long as there isn't an earlier flight to the same destination. Not sure now....

Taxi from landing on the farthest western runway to where G and F concourses meet was a surprisingly quick 15 minutes yesterday. And then we got to use stairs/bus because they couldn’t get the plane lined up with the ‘finger’.

Taxi from furthest F gate to take-off on the most west runway took about 20 minutes.

The construction of a third runway is underway at the new airport in Istanbul, Trend reports with reference to the airport’s management (IGA) July 10.
The construction of the third runway will be completed in the second half of 2020.
“The new runway will increase the capacity of the Istanbul airport to 120 planes per hour,” the report said. “Currently, the new airport receives up to 80 planes per hour.”

In a tweet from IGA it also said yesterday that taxi times at the airport will reduce by 50% due to the 3rd runway... looking forward to that as currently the taxi times significantly cut into the connection times...

That’s good news!

Long taxi times can happen anywhere, but it would be bad/thoughtless design to have them built in as standard.

The taxi times are ridiculous, my record, with no weather has been 43 minutes.
