Bali would be a great stop on the way to Sydney.
For some reason Australians prefer Bali more than Thai or Malay tourist destinations.

This is interesting, Finnish Lapland is really booming. The Lapland airports get hundreds of charter "Santa" flights in mid winter, from UK especially. Finnair, Lufthansa, Transavia and Norwegian offer seasonal scheduled services from UK & Central-Europe and now TK.

Wouldn't you want to go to Lapland via overnight sleeper trains rather than flying nonstop? Just kidding, but this route can be very useful especially from Asia where you won't have to go through Helsinki twice, not that I didn't enjoy it but it takes at least an additional day to even fly through there.

Flying to/from both JFK and EWR? Sounds unrealistic.

Not necessarily. If TK wants another slot to NYC or is not happy with its current slots at JFK, EWR is an option. There are airlines which already do it such as LH and LY.
