Negative balance in account after award redeeming ?

Hi,

I just redeemed miles for an one way award...
My total miles now is -7,200 miles...

Any experience with this? I've never thought you can have negative balance..

How much was the award, and how many miles did you have in your account prior to redeeming it? Elite members can overdraft their account by 10 000 miles, and Elite Plus can overdraft by 15000 miles. It's an unpublished benefit, but it's very useful if you want to book a trip but don't have enough miles in your account.

Yes it is some kind of opportunity. Also if you are CLASSIC PLUS Miles and Smiles member you can go -5000 miles. But really I can not understand , there is no published info about such option, I check a lot of sources but could not find any info, just learned such option by experience.

Little OT but can you cancel an award made online within 24h and get back the miles? Or change the flight time?

no matter how much you have bonus miles, the most important status miles, not to lose Elite status.

The miles refunded back are valid from as of the creditingdate. Airport taxes are subject to regular refund procedures.

For mileage return;

For Domestic Flights: EUR30 For InternationalFlights: EUR 20

If a no-show or off-load occurs, an additional fee of EUR 10 fordomestic award tickets and EUR 45 for international award tickets will becharged.

For Domestic Flights: EUR 40 For International Flights: EUR 20

Question only with M&S credit card?

The TK M&S call center keeps telling me that even as E+ it is possible to go negative only if you own an M&S credit card.

True?

Try to book an award online...

I'm E+ and seem able to book for up to 15K more miles than I actually have...

This unpublished benefit may or may not be available for Star Alliance rewards requiring the call centre...

I want to use my (not existing) TK miles, i.e. overdraft of 9000 miles for a eco to biz upgrade on a TK flight, ticket issued by TK, flight is a TK longhaul flight.

M&S call center says no, no, no. Tried 10 times already.

Have you been crediting a good amount of miles to TK previously ?

E+ for the fifth year in a row. So, yes.

It's just that TK staff sometimes is totally clueless. It really depends who you're gonna talk to. Not everyone knows everything. Hit and miss.

Ok having been through this myself:

As Elite you can overdraw by 10k miles. The call centre is clueless and will not be able to help. If anything they will mess up your reservation. However your local ticket office can do this without any problems (in my case at BRU airport).

Refunds: You must cancel the award (you can do so via the call centre), pay the fee, and watch your account closely for the miles to re-appear. It took me several weeks of arguing with TK to get 45k miles back.
