New Year 'Special Gift' - Possble Fraud email?

Just recieved a weird email from M&S.

"We have prepared a special gift for you, just like we do every year. But this time, it is a surprise! We kindly ask you to check your address and update it if necessary, through the link below so that we can deliver your gift easily."

Never recieved a New Year gift before. Anyone else receive this/know what this is about?

Lefly Jan 24, 2017 6:56 am

Yes, received.
The address is the same of notification of accrual and statement summaries.
My "IT expert" is looking into it :p

ETA
Theoretically the mail is from TK. What is for, still unclear.

Good to know. Seems FF programs are being targeted by hackers these days - AI got hit recently.

If it is legit, I wonder what I've missed out on over the past few years.

lonelycrowd Jan 24, 2017 8:13 am

I also thought it was pretty bizarre and curious, especially as TK hasn't even bothered to mail my membership card to the address they have on file - much less send holiday gifts in the past...

Perhaps they found a pile of Batman vs Superman trinkets in their office that nobody else wanted?

toastedcafe Jan 24, 2017 8:42 am

Also got the email... didn't click on the link.. Anyone has dared ?

nilsrtw Jan 24, 2017 9:33 am

I did :D Got a landing page saying "Your transaction has been completed succsessfully.". I am not an IT guy, but the URL looked legit and I didn't need to enter my password or anything.

I did too (also to test the web address, that seems legit).
Still no clue what this "gift" should be...

thogui1909 Jan 24, 2017 9:52 am

I cliecked to update my address... Was redirected on the TK Miles and Smiles official page to login. The address was the current one and I updated it.
No weird things in that ...
Wait and see

theswisswolf Jan 24, 2017 10:15 am

Well, it's a bit strange that they have my old address in the email yet my new address is on file when I log in......could be a dodgy email.

safra1 Jan 24, 2017 10:48 am

I got this too. Has anyone received a "special gift" from TK in prior years?

nilsrtw Jan 24, 2017 10:57 am

I think Elite+ based in Turkey get some kind of gift every year, a writing kit, notebook, etc.
So knowing TK it might just be an IT error

yoflieger Jan 24, 2017 11:28 am

I wrote to TK service and their reply goes " HI, yes that is true. (saying that the email was sending from TK official) Hope you will like it :) "
So hope it was not hackers who replied :D

vincewy Jan 24, 2017 7:47 pm

So if I click would my account get hacked with XXXK miles taken out or my PC get infected with virus and malware? Just kidding, seems legit with thy.com and without any phishing attempts.

Haha TK is starting to present "alternate facts"... No gift received but they're changing the past as in 1984:

siberslava Jan 24, 2017 10:46 pm

Being E+ based in Turkey I get this email every year so they can mail out their gift (which as stated earlier is usually a notebook). Nothing strange here other than the fact it might have gone out to everyone across the globe now? If so, probably is a bunch of Samsung Note 7 Batman vs Superman covers they need to get rid of knowing TK marketing :)

Has anyone seen something "out of the ordinary" in their miles statement ??

mangoman1 Jan 25, 2017 5:41 am

Doesn't look like a fraud email as already mentioned in the thread.

From email is legit, links link to THY website, the address listed is the correct one, no passwords what-so-ever required.

I'm temporary Elite Plus....click on it...transaction processed. I got my batman superman cards.....I wish it was a voucher or miles to promote flight....why would they waste international postage for some marketing thing in the US?

Because they fly to the US? Freebies from marketing is a guilty pleasure so I can't wait to see what junk I get.

Hehe, yea something like that. I have been E+ for 5-6 years and this is the first time I receive this email (I'm not based in Turkey).

tycosiao Jan 27, 2017 10:11 pm

Received it and clicked it too

The incomptence is amazing. First they send out an email asking for my address, then today I get a mail saying that the gift was a tree planted in my name at an undisclosed location. Though I think the tree-thing is better than a corporate gift their handling of the matter is laughable.

Maybe they are planning to plant in your back yard, in which case, you better hope you have a back yard:p

Temporary Elite Plus? Or are you referring to the Elite trial? To my knowledge they don't grant Elite Plus through status match or challenges.

Now that I would like to see. AFAIK they are cutting down a small forest to make space for the new airport so maybe TK got a good deal one those trees.

Sorry I meant Elite trial. The gift I received was this: an ornate wooden box that contained a luggage tag and my elite card...it looked nice but totally useless. Note that I had previously received the batman superman elite card in a much smaller mailing The postage from Turkey (I imagine) was at least 5-10 Euro. I just don't get their use of marketing $'s. Why not offer discounts or upgrades or incentives to get someone flying on TK? I'm still reeling from their delayed status match that put me in a position of having to buy a TK international flight to the Balkans to visit someone by March 31 if I want to keep my elite status. The good thing is the fair is under $600 the bad thing is the mileage accrual is only 25%....I'm flying a W fare :(.
At this rate (2800 miles per R/T) it doesn't appear I'll extend my status match to 24 months unless someone has an idea other than spending 2500 each way for BC. Unlike United, TK doesn't even offer extra legroom to it's Elites....is that nuts or what?

enelym1978 Feb 24, 2017 4:40 am

I received that email too and clicked on the link, all went ok. I did check the URL before clicking and it seemed ok....

But I still haven't received anything yet, not even an email saying that a tree bears my name now somewhere on the moon lol.

I don't mind the tree planting thing actually, if they did do for real. Rather than receiving some useless gadget that might end up in the trash.

Did anyone ever get anything from this?
