When you go through transit security, go towards the right, it is the Fastrack lane for J pax, so should give you a few minutes' headstart.
US flights don't require transit security.

What about flights originating at TLV?

Is a 70 minute connection for TLV->IST->SFO problematic? Business class ticket on TK but Mrs. B really does not want to get stuck alone at IST.

TLV is also a safe destination so there should be no transit security but exceptions might occur.

In any case it's not problematic as long as your flights run on time.
