Summer flights IST-ATH in 777?

Just noticed that our evening flight for may IST-ATH is on a 777? I had to do a double take, but it seems that they do this every summer?

So...we are booked LAX-IST-ATH and the connection in IST is tight. What's the chance that the 777 they are sending to ATH is the one from LAX?

Can you not see on your booking what plane they are using? From my experience I've never seen TK use a 777 intra Europe

I am booked on the early morning IST-ATH (TK1845) next month, and it is showing a 2-class 77W.

1845 and 1843 look to be consistently on 777 on summer schedule.
Unlikely you'll get the same aircraft, and anyway it could well be parked on apron position.

I've been looking at the 777 all week for April 2. And it's been there for a while on a couple of flights.

They actually do use it quite a lot.

LHR and ATH get them a lot.
Have seen the TK 777 at BRU, CDG and FRA as well.
They also use it on IST-ADB which is like a 40 minutes domestic flight sometimes in the early morning and evening flight.

Wow I've never seen that. Why would they use that on such short flights?

If you are asking for ADB:
I can't remember the exact number but around 75% of people traveling internationally from IST are originating somewhere in Turkey so they need to bring all these people from domestic cities to IST. If you look, there is about 5 widebodies doing the IST-ADB run everyday (mostly A330s and A340s but you see 77W from time to time as well)
Same story for IST-ESB.

The aircraft have extra time available, so why sit them on the ground when they can make a run somewhere and free up a gate or parking slot? Plus, good for crew training.

No that makes perfect sense, I just assumed (and assumption being the mother of all evils) that the 777 schedule would be fully booked out. Unfortunately I've never been so lucky to have seen it on either a domestic or intra Europe route.

...and AYT.

3 cities (ESB,AYT,ADB) where you'll see at least one 777/A330 in the morning and at least another 777/A330 in the evening to connect 2 major long haul arrival/departure banks.

for ADB and ATH it's actually for the cruises that start from these cities

there is an amazing appeal for those cruises almost all of the flights are full
