TK A330 aircraft codes
I've tried to figure out what version of the A330 TK is flying on a particular route.
I've seen the following aircraft codes on the TK site on the seat selection diagram: A330-200: speaks for itself. J Rows 1-4. 2-2-2 config. 33R: J Rows 1-4. 2-2-2. 33A: J Rows 4-10 with a lav/galley b/w rows 6 and 7. 2-2-2 33J: J Rows 1-10 with lav/galley b/w rows 6 and 7. 1-2 (???)Is this really a 330? Can't find an example of the 33A or 33J on seatguru or elsewhere. Is this a random leased aircraft? Can someone make sense of this? |
33J are 3 in the fleet. These are 3 ex 9W planes. You can check them on the net. 30J and something around 183Y.
33A are 5 in the fleet. These are ex TAM airlines. You can check that on the net too. They have 4 first and 36 J seats in the front. First is sold as J |

I was looking on Seatguru, the JJ planes would be A332 as it seems they don't have any A333 in the fleet. The "First" seats would be excellent, but the Business seats look to be almost the same craptastic seats that TK has in their A332. The 9W planes (still have no idea if 33A planes are A332 or A333) would be excellent either way, the A333 would be more friendly if you're traveling together with a significant other as many of the rows have 2 seats together and the A332 would be ideal for people traveling alone but both lie flats.

What is TK's policy on assigning these 4 first seats? They seem to be blocked on the flights I'm looking at. Can they be assigned in advance? Is there a priority list?

Thanks Ferhat. So they've kept the same J seats from 9W and Tam?
Are these A332 or A333? Just mixed into various routes or do they tend to frequent certain routes? They are all A332s. The 9W birds are: TC- JIN/M/L TAM: TC-JIO/S/P/T/R (they are frequently sent to Riyad, Madrid, Barcelona and Kathmandu) Additionally, TK has 17 A333s with 28J (lie flat) and 261Y. Those are their own birds, which they got directly from Airbus and not through the lease of aircraft already in service by other operators. |

Yes it is exactly the same layout with the same seats.

Flew on the ex-9W A332s earlier in July, I think it was TC-JIN.
Herringbone layout in a 1-1-1 configuration, similar to the CX 744 type. The K side was better since the middle row faced to the "A" seats. Installation quality seemed to be pretty poor with seats and partitions were rattling/shaking; cabin walls didnt seem to be put back properly either. Entertainment wise, it seemed to have been customised for TK. I found it amusing that the flight map selection from the main menu brought up an "Error 404 - Page Not Found". |

I wasn't sure if business had lie flat from Delhi to Istanbul so I didn't take a $300 upgrade offer. Hope I made the right decision.

They actually are lie flat. Those birds from Jet all have lie flat seats.

Looks like my flight was TC-JIO so I made the right move by not upgrading
