Almost all flights to/fr the US are slammed this summer, so again I would doubt that there will be any process such as what you are looking for this summer. Who knows, maybe they will overbook Y, have some J and try and sell those seats at the gate, rather than upgrade E+, you never know, but I would not at all count on it.

Closer to the departure date - Usually earliest 48 to 72 hours before departure but could open up laterwards as well.

Any experience on DPS - FRA via IST?
Flight leaves in a few days. I have a pretty cheap Economy E ticket.
Right now, the app only offers a 90k mile upgrade for the DPS-IST leg only. Cash upgrade is not available.
Side note: When inbound, cash upgrade was only offered for FRA-IST at 290 per pax and later 240 at check-in.
Back to DPS - FRA: Alternatively, I can just rebook the full flight back to Business Z for 1kEUR per pax. That price used to be 1.3k a few days ago and just dropped.
I would like to have Business on the DPS IST leg at least and lounge access at IST. What would you recommend?

If you could rebook the full itinerary to Z for 1k EUR, then it might make sense to do that since DPS-IST + IST-FRA is likely to be more expensive and there is no guarantee that discounted cash upgrades would appear.

I did this one time and it was MY mistake. With rebooking, TK website always goes for the cheapest fare and ignores the ticket class. It was visible in the rebooking process but maybe you were too fast. Maybe you didnt realise that with rebooking you can also get a different booking class and rebooking does not mean you keep the booking class.

If you saw a few days ago that you could rebook into Z class for 1,3k USD why do you think you would be able to rebook into D (a higher booking class than Z) for 1k USD now? Sounds like there is no mistake here; K class became available in the meantime and you just saved around 300 USD on the upgrade.

To make things clear:
During rebooking online, I was offered:
- ECO Flex
- Business SemiFlex Z
- Business Flex D
For both business options, the quote was 1.3k per pax for a long time. Then it dropped to 1k per pax suddenly. But I was always offered Z and D, never K.
I Chose business D and got my quote. I then paid and after confirmation, I suddenly saw Bus K in my flight itinerary.
I dont know what was my fault here tbh - Bus K was never offered while exploring my options.
Also, the 1K was per person for DPS - FRA only. Only the return flight.

TK is really messed up.
Yesterday, I called in since I was not able to reserve any seats. Apparently, the upgrade led to a second ticket number for me but not for my +1. In my online view, I also saw two ticket numbers for me and only one for my +1.
However, on the phone the agent was able to see the new number for my +1 and gave it to me. She also reserved seats for both of us directly which were visible in the app then.
Fast forward to right now - I logged into my reservation and my +1 is gone. 😂 I mean, there are better ways to give me relationship advice.
No seriously, she disappeared from the booking online. Even when entering her ticket no. into the search, only my booking shows up.
However, her seat selection is still blocked. I also tried to grab her e-invoice. There, her name popped up but I was only able to update her taxpayer information.
I will give TK a call again later.
UPDATE: Indeed, the ticket was NOT issued. Something in their IT is terribly wrong. While my ticket had a valid price, my +1s ticket showed 0Eur which is why it was not issued.
However, the agent then issued the ticket. Its now on a separate reservation number but its there. Now fingers are crossed that there wont be any other surprise waiting for us at the airport.
