Once they were offering ₺100 domestic AUP's for all fares; especially when Y was overbooked, they also asked this question at the lounge entrance ( for airports which doesn't have direct lounge entry ) and 1 hour before scheduled departure, they start op-up passengers if these seats are still unsold. This was the easy way of earning M&S status miles but unfortunately, this is discontinued.

I found the quoted post below for LHR-IST in this thread.
For the IST-IKA leg, unfortunately, it would be the fare difference as paid discounted airport upgrades are only available for flights departing from outstations.

Does anyone know if you avail an upgrade at an airport, whether this will entitle you to the additional business class baggage allowance?

Yes, it would give you all Business Class privileges, except for the Exclusive Drive service ( which is available in select airports ) and you would not be able to get a special meal.

By the way, only some outstations offer discounted airport upgrades and discounted airport upgrades are not available for flights departing from IST.

Yes for priority baggage handling and fast-track at arrival immigration ( if you would enter Turkey during your layover ).
No for all other services.

However, you could also upgrade the IST-XXX leg by paying the actual fare difference if you want to fly Business on the IST-XXX leg.

Thank you - that's a helpful nugget of information.

Correct me if I am wrong, but it seems if I upgraded at the airport for the first of a 2 leg journey, I wouldn't really get any additional baggage allowance then.

Did the BHX IST cost include the supplementary APD ?

It'd be a modest £13 if your trip ended in Istanbul (or you broke the journey there for 24H+).

If it was the first leg of a return trip to Singapore, the increase in duty payable would be a more dramatic £90+
