Cairo transfer (Turnaround)

Has anyone done a turnaround at Cairo airport, i.e. flown on TK to CAI and returned back on the same flight?

How easy is the transfer / transit?

Is it possible to print the boarding passes at home with a ex-CAI booking/ticket ?

Thanks in advance.

Yes, it is possible if you print your boarding pass via web check-in for CAI to IST before you leave Istanbul. Did this when TK still had the €980 all in fare to Bangkok in J.

Yes - doable:

- run to the transfer desk
- get the transit stamp on you home-printed BP
- clear security (for the first time)
- go upstairs
- run to the gate
- clear security (for the second time) at the gate entry
- show you BP (with the transit stamp) and passport to the military check point at the aircraft entrance
- enjoy - it sounds difficult but is really relatively easy - easier than in many places like Canada, the States, China etc.

Thanks for your answsers

Did anyone home-print an ex-CAI BP ?

It's not possible ex-TUN or ex-HKG for example, that's why I'm a little worried about it.

Turnaround in Alexandria

I'm doing a turnaround on the same plane in Alexandria, on the same ticket. Does anybody know if the procedure is the same?

Post Turn aroundin Alexandria

I have now completed a successful turnaround in Alexandria (Borg El Arab actually). I flew IST-HBE-IST on the same ticket, with 1h 10m in HBE. In IST they were unable to print the boarding pass for my HBE-IST leg.

Upon arrival I did not buy a visa and told the passport officer that I wanted to do a transit and was asked to show my printed itinerary. He summoned a colleague who escorted me (with just some light questioning) through customs to the check-in desk. There I was swiftly checked in and went trough the relaxed security to the gate with plenty of time to spare.

I will soon transit in Cairo. I will arrive with a Swiss flight and leave a few hours later with a TK flight.
I understand both airlines use the same terminal (Terminal 3)
I am just wondering how easy/difficult transfer will be. Will I have to go through immigration ? Will I have to get a transit visa ?
Thanks !

You don't need a transit visa : just before immigration you'll find transit desks where you'll get your BP.
Then you'll have to go through security check (to the left of transit desks) and just after you'll be able to access the upper floor (departure) with an elevator or stairs

Thanks for the info. All airlines have a transit desk ? I will fly TK to IST.
I might also be able to print my BP at home before leaving.

Desks are issuing all airlines' BPs

If your TK routing is exCAI it's possible to OLCI but not to print your BP CAI-IST

I assume that in the above case one can check-in lugage at original departure (for me AMS) and tag it on to the final destination (KUL)??

BP can only be issued 2 hours before the flight. To get access to the business lounge or simply to departure level where shops are, one has to hand over both passport and ticket. Although I now know this is standard procedure, I was unconfortable with not having my passport with me at all times.

Transit in Cairo is not 100% safe. A young french woman disapeared on a long transfer in Cairo a week ago. She was sent to a 4* hotel near the airport by Egyptair and did not show up for her flight the next day. Immigration had kept her passport, so they quickly figured out that something was wrong ... So I would not consider transiting in Cairo if I was a lovely young lady. (Which I am not in anycase )
