This analogy only works if this meal cost thousands of dollars, was ordered months in advance, would take several days to eat, you got a receipt that said you were getting rotten food, and then the restaurant having signs stating that they serve rotten food, and then your waiter confirms they will be bringing you rotten food, and then brings over food that is covered in mould with a foul odour. And yes, if you ignored all of the very clear signs, then you need to take responsibility for your mistake.
Look, it was a mistake. It happens. But, even by the travelers' own admission, they could have paid closer attention. Water under the bridge. It doesn't mean that the travelers are horrible people or that TK is evil. It was just a mistake... a great story to tell... and, in the end, TK stepped-up and got these folks where they needed to go. It should have ended there.
But, it didn't. After all was said and done, the travelers pushed for even more -- demonizing the airline when, in fact, they also admit mistakes were made all around. THAT's where the outrage from folks defending TK is coming from... I don't think anyone here "blaming" the travelers would argue that TK's hands are clean. It's the travelers' reactions that we're against.
TK made an initial mistake, and they owned-up to it. The travelers' should have done the same and dropped the issue the moment they were on the ground in Dakar.
