TK webpage with details on seat reservation.

Seats on Turkish Airlines can be reserved in the following ways:

1. For long-haul international flights, seat selection is available starting 100 days before departure for economy and 355 days for business class. Seats can be selected through the call center, the "Manage Booking" section on the website or the My Flights section on the mobile app.

2. Extra legroom seats in economy are charged for and can be reserved 355 days in advance.

3. If you have booked your flight within the 100 days window (355 for business class) you can select seats online during the booking process.

4. If you have not pre-booked seats you can do so during the online check in process.

5. For domestic economy flights that are not part of a longhaul itinerary, TK flights are open for seat reservations 24 hours before departure.

my Aeroplan-booked TK flights opened up

I entered Name + TK PNR
Took me to another page to enter Last Name + Ticket #
After that I can choose the seats (still not too smooth, can't just hit Next and Next to choose 2 segments in 1 step)
Did it twice for 1 PNR + 3-pax PNR

Not exactly.
There are airlines which have small price difference between "light" and "classic" (or simular with seat choice included) fares.
There are airlines which do allow free choice during OLCI.
There are airlines which do respect their alliance top tiers of other airlines (in terms of seats choice).
TK does neither of this and it looks like I would only fly with them if they are way cheaper than others (which is rarely the case).

We have a segment on J in the A321-200 but the seat map on the app when performing seat selection shows 2-3-2 configuration for the entire flight, including business section which seems like a bug? Flight is still awhile away though

Thats TK. Even on their 777s, J is 2-3-2 seating. Kinda sucks if youre in between two strangers. But I guess its still better than being in a middle seat in the back.

Ok cool, it was just weird since the video on their youtube channel shows 2-2 for business class section on this aircraft, but I suppose it was a different configuration.

To be clear, I think that Kensterfly means that TK make a lot of changes to the equipment they use on many routes, often very close in... so the seatmap on the app, the equipment currently scheduled, and what you actually end up flying on may all be different. Of course a 321, being single aisle, could never have a 2-3-2 configuration in J or Y....

I paid to get the exit row seat (29A, was US$139) on the 359 in economy class last week (along with selecting seats on the other 3 segments IST-NDJ-IST-YUL) for a YUL-IST in november, my credit card was charged, got confirmation email.

I now see that I have lost that YUL-IST seat and been reassigned in a regular row (12C), still shows as 359. All the other seats have been changed as well on the other segments. Most show up as occupied now when I try to switch back. Will I get refunded?

Turkish Airlines moved our seats together in J to other not-proximate seats

In late August 2023 I booked two pax IAD-IST-IAD. IAD-IST on the same date and selected two seats side-by-side (window/aisle). The trip is partially to celebrate someone's very special birthday.

I made separate bookings because each pax is returning on different dates. I am staying on longer for business reasons.

Today (four days before departure), we each received a text message saying "your seat election has been changed to XX due to operational reasons." We are now seated in different rows--one on an aisle seat (I had selected a window seat) and the other in a middle seat (between two aisle seats!)--that pax wanted an aisle seat

I called TK and was told that we had not selected seats at booking (yes I did) and that pax who do not select seats are randomly assigned open seats the week of the flight.

When I pointed out that the aisle seat I was re-assigned is located next to an empty window seat, the reply was "you would need to pay US$192 for a premium seat"--premium seat in Business Class??

I insisted that the agent (who admitted himself that their website wasn't user-friendly) speak to his supervisor. After 5 minutes on hold the reply was "that will require you to pay US$192 additional"--for a seat that remains empty?? I asked to speak with the supervisor (I was put on hold for five minutes) and was then told that that person wasn't directly reachable--I would have to call another number in Istanbul. At that point I gave up and left the call.

I booked with TK on recommendations from others (including on this site) that it was a great experience. I have never had a worse online experience starting with booking three months ago and continuing with the disaster experience I had today.

Any suggestions for patching this mess up?

Operational changes do happen but there is no charge. Hang up and call again. Failing that resolve the issue at online or physical check in.

HUCA is fine but the website or app are better in this case. Use either them or both if needed.

This will be solved during OLCI, at check-in counters, at the gate or as a last resort, on board. No need to spend time on this in advance.

As stated above seats are changed for operational reasons from time to time and you are on separate PNR so it would be very surprising /pure coincidence if the system assigned 2 seats next to each other. However, rest assured that this can solved.

As the chances of seating together get slimmer as you approach the flight and as you are risking not seating together if the flight is fully booked, I would spend time on it in advance and fix it ASAP.

Free allocation at counter desk?

Hi guys tomorrow me and my partner are travelling MAD-IST-TAS on TK

Check-in will open and as I understand from this thread, in online check-in we will get random seat allocation unless we pay.

Do you suggest to do online check-in and then try to change seat at airport counter desk...or is better to do directly the check-in at counter desk?

Go to the check-in counters early and check-in together.

Are there any issues with TK if you book an exit row seat but can only speak English, not Turkish? I know AV needs Spanish.
