TSA Touchless ID Issues

I am a frequently flyer into and out of ATL. I have PreCheck and have opted in to Touchless ID with both Delta and United. I get Touchless ID for every flight with Delta but only get regular PreCheck when I fly with United. I get some form of PreCheck with every flight out of ATL and always use the South Checkpoint as a result, but the type differs when I fly with Delta and United. When I asked United about this, they told me it has nothing to do with them and it is a TSA issue and I should contact TSA, but I never have any issue with Delta. Does anyone know how to deal with/fix this? Since I am always getting PreCheck regardless of which airline I am on, I'm assuming this isn't an issue with my KTN. Thanks in advance for anyone who can provide insights as to how I might be able to fix this.

PS: If there is a thread for this, I didn't see it in search. So please accept my apologies if this needs to be merged somewhere else.

Make sure you're opted in to Touch less ID in your United profile and your passport information is up to date. Otherwise not sure there's much you can do, touchhless seems a bit hit or miss right now

Yep - up to date passport is on both my United and Delta account and I'm opted in with both airlines. Guess I'll just have to play wait and see with United.

Not sure if anyone can help you, but here is a thread in the UA forum... https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/unit...d-lax-ord.html

Thanks. Just asked over there.

Bouncing this thread as I just became aware of Touchless ID. SAN, my home town airport, isn't participating yet. Hopefully it will - and in the mean time, I might be returning from a participating airport.

TSA PreCheck Touchless ID participating airlines and locations:

Alaska Airlines (ATL, DCA, DEN, LAX, PDX, SEA, SLC)

American Airlines (ATL, DCA, DEN, DFW, EWR, LAS, LGA, PDX, SEA, SLC)

Delta Air Lines (ATL, DCA, DEN, DTW, EWR, JFK, LAS, LAX, LGA, PDX, SEA, SLC)

Southwest Airlines (ATL, DEN, LGA, PDX, SEA, SLC)

United Airlines (ATL, DCA, DEN, EWR, LAS, LAX, LGA, ORD, PDX, SEA, SFO, SLC)

Eligibility and enrollment
  • TSA PreCheck membership: You must be an enrolled member.
  • Passport: You need a valid U.S. passport with its information stored in your airline profile.
  • Participating airline: You must be flying with a participating airline and have your frequent flyer account information with them, which includes your passport and Known Traveler Number (KTN).
  • Opt-in: You must voluntarily opt in to the program through your airline's website or app, and ensure the "Touchless ID" icon appears on your digital boarding pass before you go to the airport.
I was able to quickly sign up on Alaska. I could manually input my passport number and already knew my Trusted Traveler number. I haven't yet enrolled on UA. It requires scanning my passport in their app. I'll work on that later.

TSA Precheck Touchless ID with kids

Anyone have any experience using TSA Precheck Touchless ID when travelling with kids? Will they let you use it if you have a minor on your PNR?

And that your name on the passport and profile exactly match. AA wouldn't enable touchless ID because my AA profile has always had just a middle initial on it.

For a while post-introduction I was consistently getting Touchless on my DL trips but not on AA, even with the caveats in the AA-specific FlyerTalk thread of solo flight etc. I theorized it is due to a hyphenated name, which in my DL profile appears exactly as it does on my passport, but AA omits the hyphen and replaces it with a space (note that the hyphen appears in my AA _profile_ but not in my booking summaries or boarding passes.

However, on my last two AA trips, I suddenly started getting the Touchless indicator, so I assume that somewhere in the data chain something has gotten more relaxed about name matching.

Between this and other well-documented issues with things like credit acrd points transfer to airlines/hotels, etc. I will once again repeat my advice to expecting parents and spouses-to-be, don't hyphenate, you or your children will thank me later :p

I was able to get Touchless activated for UA,WN, and AA. DL seems to want me to scan or enter passport data upon checking in for a flight, rather than scanning the passport on my phone. I guess I will take my passport next time I fly and see if I can get this accomplished. I just scanned my passport in November to check in to Frankfurt, but apparently that wasn't good enough.

Also make sure that your name in your profile exactly matches the passport. I had problems with American Airlines because my profile only had my middle initial (it had been that way since forever apparently). It started working after I went through AA's arcane procedure to get them to put my full name in.

I signed up for Touchless ID in my AA and AS profiles. However, if you use your AA FF# on a AS flight, you won't get Touchless ID. Given that Touchless ID is really a service of the TSA, it seems your enrollment in the program should be tied to your KTN, not your FF profile. Maybe that will change as the program evolves.

Right now 'opt-in' is required, and that is tracked at the airline level, not by TSA. Presumably that is tracked by the FQTV in the PNR and only works on the issuing carrier--the one that has access to the 'opt-in' data. That may very well change as the program evolves.

It may be that TSA doesn't want to store the data, and prefers to rely on airlines to do so.

(And for that matter, I'd rather store it with the airline than TSA too . . . but not looking to start that debate).

I am using my AS number on a AA flight and no Touchless, even opted in.

Given AA won't load upcoming flights booked thru AA but crediting AS I am not surprised at all...

same, but still it's super annoying.

I’m flying AA soon. I’ve got a KTN and pre check and global entry, but have OW sapphire status with BA so want that FF number on my booking. Is there a way to manage this and still use touchless TSA?

progapanda Mar 22, 2026 2:25 pm

Despite opting in, Touchless ID has never worked for me unless I am flying on a booking ticketed by a participating carrier AND also have that same carrier's own frequent flyer number in my booking.

I have an odd one. I have been opted-in for touchless, but never get it at my home airport (CLT). It does work at other airports (just used it at JAX).

BingoSF Apr 27, 2026 9:50 am

Problems only at DCA

I'm opted in with both AA and UA and I regularly have the icon appear on my mobile boarding pass. And it has worked at many airports. But not DCA - when I scan, the officer always says "there's no record of you", I step over to the regular Pre-Check guy who runs my license and I'm good to go. And this is WITH the right icon on the boarding pass. Any suggestions on where the snafu may lie?

Same issue as BingoSF has above in every single airport I've tried using it (PDX, HON, BOI, SNA). I've registered with the airline (Alaska/Atmos), the Touchless ID logo (the little person) shows up on every boarding pass but when I get to the front of the line I'm repeatedly told they "can't find" me. Not sure if I should opt out of my airline Touchless program then re-opt in ('worried that this may mess it up more)? Or is this something I need to take up with TSA (and if so, how???).

If this were to happen to you with another airline, then I’d suspect the problem is with TSA. But if so far it’s only something that’s happening on your Alaska trips, I’d try deleting your TT and passport information, and opting out. Then re-enter everything and opt back in. Best of luck.

Is Touchless only available on your BP if your Origin offers it? Twice this week I had long connections and wanted to go outside to smoke, neither time did I have Touchless on my BP for the connection when I know the connecting airport offers it.
