Interview with CBSA needed for NEXUS Renewal?

Mods: Please move this to an existing thread if warranted. I couldn't tell from the many Nexus threads if this question belongs elsewhere.

It's time for me to renew by NEXUS status. Before I start the online rewal application, it would be helpful for me to know if I have to go to a border office of the CBSA for an interview. The closest one for me is Detroit (I'm a US citizen living in the US). Now that I no longer travel to Canada frequently for work, it's not as big a deal to have NEXUS vs the more standard GE. OTOH, renewing NEXUS status costs half of what GE does for some unknown reason.

Can anyone comment if I'll need to make this three hour drive to Detroit for an interview? If I do, I'm inclined to just revert to GE and enter Canada like everyone else whenever I might go there now. Thanks in advance for your input.

Your NEXUS renewal may or may not require an interview. If an interview is required, you can do the two step process or at a border location..

Whether or not you need an interview is something that you'll only come to know after you've applied and approved. Until then your guess is as good as mine.

Many people, including myself twice, have been approved for renewal without an interview. I'm also three hours away from the Detroit office, so was glad to not have to make the drive, but was willing to take the risk.

I don't use NEXUS (or GE, for that matter) often, but am glad to have it when I do!

Thank you and the others who chimed in for the responses. One more question: What is the two step process that could allow me to not drive the three hours to Detroit if the nenewall ends up requiring an interview?

Please refer to the following thread:

If an interview is required for your renewal, both the CBP and CBSA interviews will be required. Interviews are frequently not required for renewals, but you will not know until you submit your application and get approved (no interview) or conditionally approved (interview)
